The IT Category Manager role is based within our Babcock Corporate Services (BCS) business unit

Babcock Corporate Services (BCS) is a global function, with our largest site being Lakeside in Portsmouth, but we operate from multiple sites around the world. BCS supplies and operates all IT, security, procurement, and finance Shared Services. We are embedded alongside the operations that we serve, enabling us to maintain close working relationships that support delivery to our customers. We drive standardisation, simplification and automation across Babcock, to help generate sustainable value for the group and our external customers

The role

The difference our new IT Category Manager will make

As an IT Category Manager, you'll have a role that's out of the ordinary. This will involve working closely with the key stakeholders within the IT department to determine business requirements, determining appropriate commercial strategies that will deliver cost efficiencies and then identifying and developing suppliers to support the business and its customers.

Day to day, you'll create and support the development of Purchasing/Category/Supplier strategies within IT. Providing a structured approach to managing spend that will identify savings opportunities, whilst supporting the current and future needs of the business. You'll also take responsibility for locking in savings and benefits through ongoing contract and supplier management activities.

Essential experience

You will need proven experience in a procurement environment, preferably within the IT category area and with knowledge of a range of IT related categories, hardware and services.

You will also need:

Competence in carrying out all aspects of Purchasing lifecycle within a defined delegation level including: development of sourcing strategies, supplier selection and prequalification, drafting tender documentation and tendering contracts, placing contracts, reviewing contracts and supplier feedback / development activities.
Be qualified to degree level or equivalent.
Able to demonstrate a proven track record in developing and executing successful procurement strategies.
Experience in sourcing, contract negotiation, contract management and supplier relationship management.Lastly, you must hold or have the ability to obtain SC security clearance.
