Commercial Manager - Fareham - Permanent - Central Government & Defence

We are looking for a Commercial Manager, with a finance background/experience to come and join us, as part of our Central Government and Defence sector.

Your new role



  • Ensure that key contract application and working capital processes are documented and implemented and controls are in place.

  • You will develop a robust process around customer change requests management (e.g., billing) and implement best practises across all contracts.

  • Ensure the following activities are delivered timely and accurately by the relevant functions / team through close supervision of the end-to-end WIP process:

  • Applications trackers maintained with status updates against jobs.

  • Ensuring jobs which have been completed have the relevant documents in place required for billing.

  • Preparation of specified applications for presentation to client and timely invoicing.

  • Ensuring application reconciliations are completed in timely manner for billing.

  • Responsible for monitoring and controlling weekly WIP activity.

  • Ensure actions from weekly meetings are carried out.

  • Responsible for monitoring JLL and other Managing Agents WIP, debt and general finance activities.

  • Responsible for monthly 25 top unbilled debt commentary.

  • Chasing intercompany finance contracts for top 25 contract outstanding purchase orders.

  • Dealing with intercompany Finance business partners to chase POs.

  • Provide cash flow forecasting for cash receipts based on calculating WIP days by key contracts and promised POs.

  • Attend cash calls with Group Treasurer and discuss unbilled debt and action plans to reduce debt.

  • Attend review meetings relating to working capital and those which are contract specific.

  • Managing efficient and accurate conversion of WIP/ AI to bill, in line with Revenue Recognition Policy.

  • Proactive management of timely resolution of queries and disputes relating both internal and external applications /bills.

  • Identify and implement continuous improvements on the OTC process to drive timely cash conversion.

  • Be responsible for the assurance of contract compliance - Developing robust compliance procedures, auditing methodology and supporting managers to maintain full compliance with all contractual obligations.

  • Take ownership of contract risks. Maintaining the risk register, ensuring all risks are accurately documented and actively managed to minimise exposure.

  • Undertake additional duties in line with capabilities as required.




What you'll need to succeed



  • Previous experience in managing WIP effectively would be desirable.

  • Experience of SAFE and SAP desirable but not essential.

  • Good demonstrable interpersonal and communication skills.

  • Be tenacious, i.e., proactively following up on issues and outcomes driven.

  • Advanced experience of Microsoft Excel (Pivots & VLOOKUP Essential).

  • Deadline driven with ability to prioritise workload.

  • Good understanding of day-to-day operations of a Finance department / Order to Cash (OTC) process.

  • Ability to work within a flexible and virtual team structure dealing with key stakeholders at all levels.

  • Good attention to detail and data analysis skills.

  • Ability to adapt to changes and enjoys challenges it may bring.

  • CIMA qualified / MBA, with strong experience in operational/commercial finance activities.

  • Whilst mobile, the post holder shall base out of the contract main office, located at Fareham.
