Our client The Professional Monitor Company is hiring a Buyer to join their team. The buyer is responsible for purchasing the best quality materials and services for the company at the most competitive prices and for ensuring their on-time delivery.
This role reports directly to the procurement manager and is expected to work closely with all departments but specifically the production, planning & warehouse teams.
Key responsibilities and tasks:
Purchase all materials and services in line with the sales planning process
Identify safety stock, strategic plan for long LT & PMC specific items & maintain optimum stock levels
Negotiate terms and conditions of supply as required including for price increases
Source new suitable suppliers for existing and new materials
Enhance the purchasing function and look for ways to continuously improve its operation.
Work with production/engineering to identify make or buy possibilities with cost/benefit in mind
Control an agreed monthly budget on purchases against production schedule value
Ensure that all purchase orders are delivered on time
Produce the monthly cashflow report
Liaise with other departments to advise any changes to the schedule
Ensure purchasing records are updated & maintained to ensure system integrity
Report monthly on:
Stock value
Purchase orders value keyed, is it in line with budget?
Shortfall of stock against works orders plan
Work closely with the engineering team to ensure satisfactory supply of goods for new products
Manage engineer change notices
Review, manage and continuously improve supplier performance.
Work in accordance with the business processes and procedures as appropriate e.g. NDAs
Train & supervise the work of the purchasing assistant
Occasionally travel to visit suppliers and to the head office in Biggleswade as required
Co-operate in undertaking the work of absent colleagues or in assisting in other departments, & accordingly from time to time undertake such other duties or hours of work as may reasonably be required to ensure the employer s business needs are met
Requirements:
5+ years experience of purchasing, systems & processes
Excellent communication skills
Excellent analytical & negotiation skills
Positive representative of the business
Good standard of computer literacy in Microsoft Office software
Good judgement & decision maker
Detail orientated
Good time management
Demonstrate good leadership skills
Hold a current driving licence
The Buyer will be able to demonstrate the following attributes:
Ability to work independently as well as in a team
Ability to communicate effectively with suppliers and other company employees
Ability to contribute their own goals/vision/thoughts/work to colleagues and team members
