Buyer

I am working closely with my Bedfordshire-based client, a leading designer and manufacturer of specialist power electronic systems and equipment serving a global client base across a range of industries, to find an experienced Buyer / Senior Buyer to join their in-house Materials Control & Purchasing team.

This newly created position will primarily be focused on purchasing materials, components, supplies and services essential to support the ongoing operations of the business. The successful candidate will ensure that purchases are of the required quality and quantity, are delivered on time, and at the most economical cost.

Reporting to the Materials & Logistics Manager, you will be responsible for:

Issuing purchase orders according to MRP demand and incoming requisition forms
Understanding production demands to be able to analyse MRP demand and adjust orders according to real needs.
Reviewing unacknowledged / late order reports for your vendors
Updating item data settings to improve MRP demand
Reviewing shortage report and complete necessary actions to avoid production shortages, including communication with vendors, production, and the warehouse
Managing scheduling of open orders based on production planning modifications
Managing vendor warranty claims
Qualifying new vendor capacities based on set qualifications and eliminate underperforming suppliers
Preparing and issue RFQ requests, and compare MOQ, payment terms, freight conditions, etc.
Challenging vendors quotes and drive cost down; report cost reductions
Managing PPVs on a regular basis
Maintaining clear and efficient communication with internal and external personnel
Coordinating meetings and prepare needed materials
Establishing standards and procedures for continuous improvement.

Applications are invited from experienced Buyer and Senior Buyers with previous purchasing experience within a manufacturing environment. You should have a successful track record of establishing and developing relationships with suppliers and proven negotiation skills.

You should have previous experience of using an ERP system (ideally Infor / Baan).

Although the majority of this role will be split between the company headquarters in Bedfordshire and remote working, there may be the requirement for domestic or international travel on rare occasions to meet with current and potential new suppliers, so a driving licence and passport are desirable.
