Howdens Joinery are looking for an experienced Category Buyer to manage the commercial relationship with our global suppliers. As a FTSE 100 business with an ambitious growth agenda, this role offers a highly commercial and engaging Buying professional, an excellent opportunity to manage a category end to end.

Based at either our Howden or Raunds Office's, reporting to the Senior Buyer, you will manage a significant product portfolio and shape the path to growth for your category. An excellent influencer and negotiator, you will also be able to challenge our processes appropriately and use your knowledge and expertise to advise and question our approach ensuring that you add value in an engaging and confident manner.

Role Responsibilities
- Accountable for new product development and shaping the product range, monitoring competition and pricing, and delivering a comprehensive promotional trading plan.
- Develop your understanding of supply for your product category as well as the external conditions and influences that may impact future availability and cost.
- Direct impact on our P&L and be responsible for managing the profitability of your category
- Play a key role in developing our long-term growth plans with our suppliers and ensure the supply base meet the depots availability, quality needs and commercial requirements.

We are looking for:
- Buying experience is essential for this role although we are open to a range of sourcing and buying backgrounds
- Effective communication and presentation skills
- Strong analytical and numerical skills with great attention to detail.
- Able to influence and negotiate effectively
- Experience in managing external suppliers,
- Ability to build and maintain working relationships
- Experience in end-to-end category management
- Preferably CIPS or similar qualification
