An excellent opportunity has arisen for a well-organised and passionate individual to join our Purchasing Department in the role of Assistant Buyer. The purpose of this role is to support in the sourcing of products and commodities in line with our business needs in order to meet customer expectations.

SEM has a modern lean-based manufacturing environment and has hosted a number of best-practice visits. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone to take our financial and information systems to the next level by focussing on day to day continuous improvement, developing staff capabilities and embedding the progressive changes that have taken place over the last five years.

Responsibilities include:

Placing purchase orders and requisitions in a timely manner

Place orders for materials to replenish stock via the company Order Replenishment System (MRP)

Collaborating with peers in purchasing team to support with the procurement needs for the business.

Support the team by maintaining and monitoring KPI s to optimise supply chain performance

Identifying opportunities for cost saving initiatives

Engaging with suppliers to establish effective working relationships and increase supply chain efficiencies

Contacting suppliers and hauliers to establish estimated arrival times to ensure on time delivery, in full

Supporting the Purchasing Manager with related procurement projects

Liaising with Production and Production planning on material availability and deliveries

Ordering ad-hoc items for various business functions

Support the Stores department with the planning of stock movement and storage as well as establishing the need for replenishment of parts

Gather and analyse spend and supplier data, providing relevant information to support business initiatives and improvements

Manage product data using the relevant database functions

Carrying out various administrative tasks that support the purchasing function

Our perfect Assistant Buyer would have:

Proven experience of working within a procurement based role, preferably within a manufacturing environment

A hands-on approach with an appetite to willingness to learn

Commercial awareness with good business acumen

The ability to listen and contribute towards the team effort; collaborates and shares expertise with others

A cost conscious approach with a passion for driving improvements and adding value

Excellent attention to detail; highly numerate

A versatile and practical approach; able to provide solutions to problems

A focus on the customer experience; able to provide a pragmatic and responsive service. Can build strong relationships throughout the organisation

High proficiency in all MS Office packages, ideally has experience of operating an Order Replenishment System

The ability to operate and thrive within a fast paced environment whilst working well under pressure; prioritises effectively to meet deadlines

A strong level of conversational English with strong written skills

Qualifications

5 GCSE s A -C Grade. Educated to degree level (desirable)

The hours you would work

Monday to Thursday, 7.30am-4.15pm. Friday, 7.30am-12.30pm or 4.15pm
