Buyer required for a well-established and niche manufacturer who are true specialists in their industry. The company are experiencing ongoing growth and success within their markets. They offer a fast paced and varied role for a candidate who has the ability to work on their own initiative.

The role would suit experienced buyers from a manufacturing or engineering background. Applicants will have proven experience managing suppliers, setting up long term contracts and ensuring best price and best service terms from all suppliers. You must be prepared to work within a busy, fast paced procurement team. CIPS certifications will be advantageous, although relevant transferable industry experience is of the highest priority.

Working as part of a large overall procurement team this role focuses entirely on the strategic planning and growth of the business by supporting the supply chain by managing relationships with all suppliers in the UK and overseas. You will ensure the business has long term contracts with all key suppliers and a best price, best service approach to all supplier accounts in terms of gaining the optimum outcome in terms of profitability and deliverables across the board.

The Role:

*Collaborate with production, engineering and R&D to ensure components are procured to specification and in line with production schedule.

*Supplier selection and negotiation to ensure on time supply of components for the manufacturing area, against cost down targets.

*Analysis of and in-depth understanding of supplier capability.

*Active and significant participation in multi-disciplined teams for the introduction of new products into manufacturing.

*The successful development and implementation of lean supply techniques throughout the supply chain

*Ability to facilitate/conduct supplier audits.

*Rationalise the supply base and manage supplier relationships to ensure code of conduct and contract compliance and achieve strengthened purchasing relationships with suppliers.

*Collaborate with and influence the central purchasing council, commodity managers and category managers.

The Person:

*Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.

*Ability to work effectively with sales, design and engineering teams.

*Ability to negotiate and influence to build supplier partnerships

*Commercial awareness with a sense of organisational sensitivity

*Fluent communications skills, both verbal and written, along with excellent interpersonal skills.

*Strong attention to detail

*Ability to introduce improvements and cost reductions

*Highly numerate and PC literate

*Expert user of an ERP system, (ideally SAP), and Microsoft excel
