Our client is a large and well-respected manufacturing organisation who are looking to grow further due to increased workload. They are looking for an experienced metallurgist who is well versed testing a range of metals. You will be working as part of a team in the metallurgy department and must be capable of working on own initiative, often to tight deadlines whilst maintaining good attention to detail.

Job Specification

To negotiate contracts and ensure cost effective supply of MRO commodities to achieve group objectives and targets; working with other sites in the group to maximise our purchasing power and obtain the best supply route.

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities
Support corporate purchasing projects as required and implement actions.
To source potential new suppliers and competitive quotes for new business as required.
To perform benchmarking and value analysis across current supply chain.
To develop supplier relationships to improve reliability, efficiency and quality with partnership focus.
To ensure purchase requisitions and stores stock items and applicable services, including transport contracts, are ordered in a timely and cost-effective manner to meet company requirements.
To ensure materials ordered meet technical specifications and the quality expectations
To interface with other departments on projects and capital expenditure and own the commercial negotiation and resultant contracts.
To achieve inventory and cost reduction targets.
To monitor and measure supplier performance, managing and resolving performance issues as required.
Maintain register of all existing contracts and ensure timely planning of contract and lease renewals.
To carry out quality audits in conjunction with quality assurance.
To administer the sale of all scrap and ensure the buy back is completed at the best market price and meets company policies.
Ensure the stores area is managed to maintain inventory accuracy and provide a service level which meets the needs of internal customers.
To develop, lead and manage team. Introduce and champion a performance improvement culture within your team.
To be accountable for all regular management reporting needs, personally or otherwise, and ensure that the required data is complete accurate and provided in a timely manner.
Encourage and help drive the culture of continuous improvement in terms of cost efficiency, quality and health and safety and challenge existing operation practices and systems and adopt industry best practice.
Support the production, development and implementation of strategic plan to achieve Company objectives.

Senior Buyer

Essential Skills/Experience/Qualifications

Experience of working within a similar role and industry, aerospace / engineering / manufacturing
Very strong negotiation skills
Previous people management experience.
Good understanding of MRP
Relevant qualification in Purchasing/Buying preferred (CIPS)
Excellent communications skills
High level of financial awareness
Ability to make conscientious decisions using own initiative
