Assistant Buyer / Purchasing Assistant

Summary:
A hugely successful and award-winning manufacturing business, based in Oldbury are currently looking for an Assistant Buyer, to assist the Procurement Manager with Group purchasing activities in a varied and interesting permanent position, with the opportunity for career progression.
Responsibilities include:
* Working closely with the Procurement Manager, travelling to other Group Business sites throughout the local area
* Purchasing, with a focus on raw and processed materials and consumables used in high quality manufacturing processes
* Liaising closely with suppliers to ensure the company is getting the best deal & service provision possible at all times
* Regularly researching new potential suppliers to improve on prices and service levels
* Checking and monitoring stock on the system and keeping records of what items should be ordered and when
* Processing purchase requisitions to ensure on time delivery of products or services
* Ensure all purchase requisitions and purchase orders and approved in accordance with the delegation of authority guidelines
* Match disputed invoices in liaison with suppliers for on time release to payment and pass forward for authorisation
* Expediting orders to ensure all orders are delivered on time in full
* Working with suppliers to ensure timely release of orders, to arrive in time
* Manage inventory levels to maintain optimum stock levels
* Tracking and ensuring timely delivery of orders
* Updating internal databases
* Liaising with all departments and sites, to ensure all items have arrived on time and in good condition
* Communicating with all departments on potential internal or external issues which may result in customer orders being late
* Supporting Finance with any queries and amending the system accordingly
* Following up with suppliers, as needed, to confirm or change orders
* Performing clerical & administration work as required
* Filing contract and commercial documents and entering them into a database
* Checking over the purchase order one line at a time, to find mistakes before orders are placed
Experience & Skills required:
* Previous experience of working in a Buying / Purchasing position is required
* Experience of working for a manufacturing business in similar role would be a distinct advantage
* A good working knowledge of IT systems including Micrsoft Office packages is essential
* A background that includes using and updating an MRP / ERP system would be very helpful
* Ability to work well with colleagues, as part of a wider team is essential
* Excellent communication skills and a friendly, helpful attitude towards your work is requested
* Organisation and prioritisation skills
* Attention to detail is also important
* A driving licence and own transport would be an advantage also - to allow travel between sites locally (fuel allowance will be provided
Training or Qualifications required:
To be studying towards, or have achieved a Level 1 or 2 CIPS qualification would be ideal
A GCSE or equivalent pass in Maths and English is requested
