Job Title: Lead Buyer
Location: Barton Under Needwood
Duration: 6 Months Contract
Salary: ( Negotiable)

Our Engineering client based in Barton Under Needwood, have a permanent position for a Lead Buyer, ideally with the availability for an immediate start or with a short notice period.

Position Summary:

To lead the purchasing team on cost reduction, supplier selection, contract implementation and supplier management.

Key Accountabilities/ responsibilities:

*To manage a portfolio of suppliers with the aim of ensuring QCD performance
*Build, follow-up and monitor local sourcing action plans
*To protect the supply chain by ensuring that suppliers have the capacity to supply quality product within acceptable lead times
*Implement strategies to guarantee the best "Total Cost of Ownership"
*Take the lead in the Supplier Reduction Roadmap for production suppliers
*Support the reporting process into the company
*Take the lead in improving the performance of the worst performing suppliers
*Ensure that the Purchasing budgets key objectives are implemented, tracked and successfully completed
*Set-up and support the implementation of Supply Frame Agreements with strategic suppliers on production parts
*Set-up item/supplier relationships for non strategic items, i.e. unpredictable, irregular items
*Identify suppliers to implement Consignment Stock, Kanban and VSM
*Manage all external suppliers in the Vendor List via PRISM and identify potential new suppliers
*Volume analysis of consumed stock to ensure price breaks are set in appropriate places
*Lead supplier review meetings and cost reduction teams
*Visit supplier premises as required to ensure goals and objectives are achieved
*Take the lead in ensuring supplier selection is robust and justified
*Liaise with other departments and colleagues across the UK in order to meet individual and team objectives
*Ensure all Company procurement procedures are followed
*Take the lead on the Purchasing section of the Company Management System and Internal Control to ensure quarterly targets are met
*To carry out any other reasonable duty or task as required in pursuit of the Company's goals and objectives

Background & Experience:

* Rail background desirable
* Possess good problem-solving skills
* Numerate and Analytical
* Able to work as part of a team or solo as required
* Results and Performance orientated
* Attention to detail
* IT literate and fully conversant with all Microsoft Office applications

Qualifications/Education required:

* Minimum 3 A Levels/ Level 3 NVQ or equivalent
* Degree preferred
* Preferably hold or be working to Professional Purchasing qualifications (e.g. MCIPS and/or Material planning / Logistics certification)
