What will you be doing?

You’ll be taking on full end to end responsibility for a multi-million pound spend across a number of key commodity group, defining the commodity strategy before executing it and moving on to proactive supplier management.  You’ll be looking to identify opportunities to consolidate the supplier base and drive out costs with the autonomy to source new suppliers when needed. Building relationships with the existing suppliers to become more collaborative will also be key to success in this role so demonstrating a track record of this will be essential.
This role presents you with a great chance to move away from tactical/transactional buying to a more strategic role, allowing you to develop and grow your procurement skill set.
You’ll need to be proactive, diligent and really want to make a difference with a business that is maturing and just starting to reap the benefits from having a new procurement lead that is looking to develop both the function and its people.

Who will you be doing it for?

You’ll be joining an established manufacturing business, who produce amazing products and is part of a multi-billion dollar group. The procurement function has both established and new talent in their team and are now moving from a transactional, subservient function to one that embraces new ideas and is implementing new processes, in order to optimise and become a highly professional procurement operation.  There are lots of opportunities to make a strong and immediate impact in this role and you’ll be given the autonomy, and support, to deliver. 

What do you need to bring to the party?

To be successful in this role it is expected that you’ll be able to demonstrate the majority (after all no-one’s perfect!) of the following skills and experience:
  • Proven experience for procuring/buying components/parts/materials in a manufacturing environment (automotive, aerospace or rail would be advantageous).
  • CIPS qualified or working toward would be preferred but isn’t essential if you can clearly demonstrate the above
  • Excellent negotiation skills, with the ability to not only secure the best commercial arrangements but also maintain positive relationships with your suppliers
  • Experience of working with MRP/ERP systems
  • Intermediate excel skills with the ability to accurately analyse data
  • Strong communication skills (including fluent verbal and written English) and the ability to build relationships at all levels of a business both internally and externally
  • Tenacious attitude, results driven and able to stand your ground in a professional and diplomatic manner
