Skillection Ltd are working with their manufacturing / engineering client based in Heywood Lancashire assisting them in the recruitment of a Buyer for their organisation.
Position Summary
This is an exciting opportunity for a buyer to provide support to operations for supply base development and total cost improvement. Our client has a reputation for producing high quality machines through engineering excellence, therefore, it is crucial for this role to ensure that the highest standards of supply, cost and quality are maintained at all times.
Main Responsibilities
Drives total cost reduction across the supply chain by focusing on identifying cost down opportunities
Identifying, sourcing and finalising new worldwide suppliers
Manages and develops mutually beneficial existing supplier relationships
Works with suppliers to ensure KPI's are achieved and maintained
Identifies, plans and implements continuous improvement opportunities within the supply chain to achieve best practice
Manages and negotiates supplier contracts on an international basis
Uses just in time principles to meet production demands
Works cross functionally with all areas of the business, particularly engineering and production
Co-ordinates materials activities with worldwide materials to achieve total lowest cost for the business
Drives the application and development of purchasing functional excellence

Strong negotiating skills
Excellent communication skills, both verbally and written
Proven ability to plan and manage multiple conflicting projects to successful conclusion
Has a robust and proactive approach to problem solving

Is able to undertake worldwide travel on a regular basis
Excellent attention to detail

Is self - motivated
Education and Experience:
Between 5-7 years' experience as a buyer managing a global supply base
Has had responsibility for final negotiations and closing supplier deals
Ability to read technical drawings
Good standard of general education, particularly in English and Maths
Computer literate and confident in using Microsoft applications on a daily basis
Desirable:
Experience of buying for an engineering department would be an advantage
CIP's qualified, or is working towards qualification
Experience of using an ERP system such as SAP or equivalent
