There has never been a more exciting time to join Guildford Borough Council. We've had a major review of how we work in a large-scale programme called Future Guildford. The Procurement function, which sits within Financial Services is growing quickly and has a further role to strengthen the resource and focus on more Strategic sourcing.
Your new role
This role will deliver the procurement strategy across the Council adopting a Category Management approach. You will support the Council’s Procurement Board and work as one of their key advisors, providing advice and drafting reports on various indirect procurement projects.
It is very important that you can build strong relationships with internal stakeholders and suppliers alike. You must also be the first point of contact for new suppliers and ensure that all are following the Council’s procurement procedure rules. You will also be involved in the training and development of other team members of procurement legislations and best practice.
You will work with the Procurement support role to manage spend analysis and look at opportunities for collaboration, contract management, supplier sharing and frameworks to make financial savings. You will also take an active role in the Surrey Procurement Network and attend meetings and feedback to GBC.
What you'll need to succeed
- Experience working in a procurement team across indirect procurement categories
- MCIPS qualified or working towards MCIPS
- Working knowledge of National thresholds
- Experience using procurement/tendering software
- Previous experience analysing procurement data and strong numerical skills
- Excellent relationship building skills – with both stakeholders and suppliers
- Excellent organisation skills
- Experience offering training and development workshops to junior team members
- Experience working at board level and giving advice to other departments
- Experience of leadership and management
- Ability to manage high workload, with several projects running at any one time
- Excellent time management skills
