Buyer - RC Frame & Groundwork Contractor

GBP40,000 - GBP50,000 + Benefits

North West London

About the Opportunity:

I have been asked to recruit a Buyer for this specialist reinforced concrete frame and groundwork subcontractor. This position has a crucial part to play in the businesses ability to operate smoothly as you will be a central link between the suppliers and the sites.

Day to day duties will include speaking with site teams, operational management and preconstruction management to organise what materials are needed and when and then working with suppliers to get the required items to site on time at the best price. Usual materials and plant include steel, concrete, muck away, etc.

An organised and efficient mind is needed to work practically with site teams to make sure not only are materials ordered at competitive prices, but also that they arrive on site when needed. No one wants deliveries turning up early, late or wrong!

Therefore, this opportunity will suit someone who has worked for a rival concrete frame and groundwork subcontractor in a procurement role already, and someone who is looking to join a well set up business as part of a larger team. I need someone who has the rival knowledge so both the prices of products are familiar but also the operating methods of a concrete frame and groundwork business are second nature too.

About the Employer:

The business has been trading for over 25 years, remains privately owned and is currently turning over around GBP120 million per annum specialising with in reinforced concrete frames, groundworks, basement construction and demolition. The have offices based in North West London and a regional presence in the surrounding Home Counties and cover work in the city centre all the way up to Cambridge. Package values vary depending on works involved but their largest scheme to date was a GBP60m package over two years.

Outside of the standard facts of this business, I have maintained a close working relationship with the MD (who is a loyal well-respected individual with in this sector) and directors for over 10 years and have seen them double in size and capability in this time. They have a close nit team that all work well together from directorship level down to site and what really stands out about them is their ongoing focus to deliver complex commercial projects with real technical capability, rather than just traditional residential frames. They really are a superb company to work for and with. The MD and all the directors really take the time to get to know everyone in the company and continually look at ways to develop people to their maximum potential.

About the Requirements:

The criteria I have been asked to keep to is simple:

1. Any applicants must have worked for a rival concrete frame or groundwork subcontractor in the UK to be considered, in a procurement role.

2. You should have an understanding of the various products that you will be buying in this role and a rough understanding of their current market rates.

3. You need to be based within a commutable distance to our client's office in North West London.

Outside of that, I am open to talking to any interested parties.

About the Remuneration:

As with most of the positions I recruit for, salary is dependent on experience, but I am expecting to consider individuals who are currently earning or looking to earn anywhere from GBP40,000 to GBP50,000 per annum (give or take). If you meet the criteria I have listed for previous experience, this ball park area should be expected. Additional benefits such as car allowance, pension and bonuses can be discussed at the point of interview.

How to Apply:

I am more than happy to discuss these opportunities with people over the phone or face to face in a fully confidential manner. This is an incestuous sector and I fully understand the importance of keeping things discrete.

Alternatively, it would be ideal to see a copy of your CV to understand your previous experience and employment. In line with GDPR, nothing will be done with your CV / details until we have discussed the roles in detail anyway, but having gained an understanding of your formal past, this may help when we come to talk and discuss the options.

About Me, Your Consultant:

My name is Andrew Jackson and I am one of the founding directors of Cityscape Recruitment Ltd. I have over 15 years of experience in civil engineering & construction recruitment, during which time, I have specialised in the niche sectors of concrete frames, groundworks, basement construction and demolition.

So, what does that mean for you? It means, I work with the vast majority of the groundwork & concrete frame businesses in the UK and I can help not only introduce you, but I can give you up to date information on each of them (the good parts and the less positive parts), helping you make an informed decision so you can take your career forward. I've been doing this for a fair while now and I've maintained a positive reputation doing what I do because I don't tell people false truths, I tell them everything I know and then let them choose. My job is to get you the options, give you the information and then let you decide what feels right for you
