Project Buyer, New Products

Varied, project driven position supporting new product development sourcing for a market leading manufacturing company, supporting flagship projects at the forefront of technology.
Working as part of a project team you will have responsibility for managing the purchasing requirement for new product introduction(NPI) projects (typically several concurrent projects at varying levels of complexity and maturity) to ensure that project milestones are met for development and production.
The Project Buyers position is a key role with a high amount of autonomy offering exposure to all areas of the business but with a focus on new product development.
Working with the development teams, key accountabilities will include:
Providing purchasing expertise and advice to the new product introduction teams in line with future business roadmaps
Ensuring optimum design for manufacture (DFM) on new products including sitting in on project reviews, tracking issues against key milestones
Analysing the cost implications of component changes and any potential impact on functionality, quality etc
Sourcing / evaluating new suppliers
Negotiation of terms and conditions with suppliers
Supplier auditing in conjunction with the quality department
Keeping abreast of market and technological trends
Measuring supplier performance and much more???
This role will suit an experienced Buyer who has:
An electro-mechanical or mechanical commodity background within a fast-moving manufacturing environment
Prior influence or exposure to new product development (NPI) or design for manufacture from a procurement / purchasing perspective highly advantageous.
Experience of working with an MRP / ERP or SAP based system required
CIPS qualification advantageous but not essential
Likely to suit individuals with a background as (but not limited to) Buyer, Project buyer, Purchasing Manager, Lead Buyer, Senior Buyer, Planner / Buyer, Production Planner / Buyer, Purchasing executive, NPI Buyer, Component Buyer, Lead Buyer, Procurement Manager or similar
