We are looking for a Quantity Surveyor to join a friendly, supportive and dynamic team within the Procurement and Commercial Services Directorate to negotiate contracts and provide commercial support throughout delivery of high value contracts. The team leads an effective and efficient delivery and management of commercial operations and provides commercial assurance to infrastructure projects, including the tracking of Compensation Events and resolution of commercial risks and issues.

In this role, you will support the Engineering & Construction Directorate on the water CAPEX delivery model in drafting and in supporting contract administration and work closely with the project manager, E&C finance and delivery partners.

You will act as a commercial business partner and be considered an expert and trusted advisor, as well as provide cost management services, commercial support pre-contract award, contractual compliance, and dispute resolution, enabling Southern Water to extract maximum value from its construction contracts throughout the project lifecycle. As part of cost management services, you will provide commercial support and advice to the business including appraisal of options, feasibility studies, cost planning, procurement support, cost management, change management and cost appraisals.

You will work closely with Project managers to provide pre-contract capabilities, guiding best practice and expert advise based on Centre of Excellence best practices, minimising commercial impact by identifying difficulties, emerging issues and inadequate contractual performance leading on dispute resolution. Your contribution as an agent for change, seek opportunities for continuous improvement and delivering robust commercial governance and cost control with agreed annual savings is critical in this highly empowered role.

With Bachelor’s degree in Quantity Surveying or a similar discipline, a solid commercial management experience, preferably in a water or utilities industry, you will have good experience of cost management and/or quantity surveying for large projects or framework arrangements with a background in administering and drafting NEC standard forms of contract. You will be an excellent communicator, highly influential and able to manage expectations of senior stakeholders. Being commercially acumen with strong problem-solving and analytical mindset, you will be confident in building sustainable relationships with strong commercial acumen and problem-solving, and excellent analytical and data presentation skills
