Senior Buyer

We are currently dealing with a major Engineering contractor who are looking to expand the team in Birmingham by recruiting a Senior Buyer, to work and supply to some of the largest Rail Infrastructure projects in the UK, specifically the Midland Metro Alliance. Within this role you will be responsible for delivery teams with professional materials, plant, and service supply. This role will involve you taking the primary responsibility for placement of subcontract orders and communicating effectively internally across the business, with external suppliers and other bodies as directed by the Procurement Manager and Alliance Management Team.

Within the role of Senior Buyer, you will be responsible for driving value from the supply chain through effective supply chain selection, segmentation, relationship management and development, and robust performance management. You will be expected to ensure the effective supply chain structure is in place for Birmingham, with clear ownership of key subcontractor relations, whilst ensuring a consistent approach across the business unit. This will also involve you being able to effectively communicate project requirements to these supply chains through various communication channels.

As Senior Buyer you will prepare tender enquiries and send out for pricing in accordance with the project Procurement Schedules to meet project program. You will be responsible for ensuring an ongoing development and maintenance of the supplier relationship management process in conjunction with other members of the Procurement Team, whilst driving a culture of continuous improvement.

Job requirements:

Minimum of three years' experience within Civil/ Construction Engineering sector working at senior level within a large multi business unit or project environment
Knowledge of best practice supply chain management tools
Demonstrable commercial awareness, with the ability to control and monitor budgets
MCIPs or equivalent is desirable, including 'working towards'
