Role

As a Senior Buyer, you will be responsible for delivery of a sustainable supply chain to support the programmes assigned to you. Working within the defined processes and procedure, you will protect the commercial and financial interests of the company whilst ensuring that customer needs are met. This role will include some strategic activities through optimisation of spend, collaboration with 3rd parties and developing ways of working through continuous improvement exercises and operation delivery such as demand forecasting, PO management, materials sourcing, scheduling and inventory management.

Key Responsibilities

Accountable for meeting programme schedule and budget commitments through supplier management including;
Identification of suitable suppliers for 3rd party items and services.
Lead competitive exercises to maintain on-time delivery to programme at best value.
Negotiation and implementation of agreements with appropriate customer flow downs.
Proactively maintain positive and mutually beneficial supplier relationships.
Manage supplier price and availability, including alternative sources, in line with programme needs.
Monitor and manage obsolescence and other supply issues, providing status updates and reports as requested
Highlight and/or escalate, in a timely fashion, any supplier delinquency that affects the programme delivery schedule.
Ensuring that supplier performance measurement activities are maintained through good practise, including;
Undertake reviews of the key partners (bi-annually as a min).
Working with Mission Assurance and others, monitor supplier performance, such as OTIF, quality, management and values.
Report performance measures and areas of improvement where appropriate.
Carry out other ad-hoc tasks that may reasonably be required

General Operational duties

Attend Business Management department meetings as required
Remain compliant with all applicable processes and procedures Business Management / Command Media Processes and procedures
Support programme delivery by providing professional supply chain engagement
Provide regular progress/ performance reporting on supply chain status of programmes.

Adept at problem-solving relatively complex issues and able to develop solutions to a variety of problems

Organised, adept at workload management and prioritising appropriately to meet deadlines

Proactive team worker, equally self-motivated and able to work autonomously
Good interpersonal skills, able to engage effectively with all audiences/stakeholders
Proficient user of MS office
Competent in PowerPoint and face-to-face presentation delivery
Fluent in written and spoken English
Strong customer focus
Engaging 'can do' attitude

Person Specification

Essential qualifications / experience

Qualified in a relevant subject
Demonstrable experience of proposal work and review
Proven track record of building strong supplier relationships
Evidenced success in negotiating subcontracts prices
Relevant experience of working within a supply chain function
Experience and understanding of how supply chain operates within an organisation
Purchase order drafting
Experience of understanding of contract/subcontract law and management

Preferred qualifications / experience

CIPS qualified/ working towards
Export/import control including knowledge of ITAR
Knowledge of European languages

Other requirements

Travel requirements: Some UK travel may be required to attend team/customer/ supplier meetings and training activities
Clearance requirements: Post-holder must hold and maintain UK Government clearances where required
