WHSmith is a leading, global travel retailer for the world's travelling customer. Since 1792, we're proud to have grown and evolved into a globally recognised brand, and we're proud to be that air of familiarity people love and trust on their journey.

Today, we have more than 1,700 stores in over 30 countries across the globe, serving millions of customers every year. In the UK, you'll find us at airports, railway stations, hospitals and at motorway service areas. Making our customers' journeys easier is our passion. Whether they're travelling by air, by foot, by road or by train, we are there for them. As one of the world's leading travel retailers, we are the trusted home for travel essentials in the UK and it's how we support the millions of journeys made each year.

As a diverse group of over fourteen thousand colleagues, our people and our customers are at the heart of everything we do. And we know to succeed on our own journey, we need the best people. We are currently seeking an experienced Junior Buyer to join our talented Snacking team based in our Travel Head Office in London. Reporting into the Buyer this person will be responsible for our growing Snacking category.

We are looking for an enthusiastic individual who is keen to work in a fast paced environment and will work well in a team. The role requires an organised individual, capable of managing complex information and supporting the team in all areas of activity.

What you'll be doing:
In this role you will have buying responsibility across our snacking range, selecting and developing profitable new ranges and generating new ideas on how to grow YOY sales, margin and income. You'll build up strong relationships with suppliers to deliver effective and profitable plans, working closely with the supply base to ensure in store availability is maintained, whilst managing the waste performance within budget. You will deliver meaningful reports and cut through the information/detail in order to get to the real issue, keeping abreast of market trends and competitor activity in a fast paced environment, to help identify new opportunities as well as changes to our existing offering.

What we are looking for:
We are looking for someone within a Retail/FMCG background and previous experience within a Buying or category management role. Ideally you will be educated to a degree standard or equivalent. You should be confident and approachable, enthusiastic and excited about the project, having the ability to work cross functionally. You should have a net understanding of business (i.e. buying and stock) and strong presentation skills with the ability to use creative thought processes - on product, promotions, displays and deals. You should have excellent numerical and analysis capability with strong Microsoft Excel skills including V lookups and pivot tables. You should have a proven track record of delivering strong levels of supplier income and the ability to remain calm under pressure.

Why Join Us?
You'll be at of the hub of an incredibly fast-moving function and you'll be trusted to make decisions that benefit the business. It's a serious responsibility - which will seriously motivate you. You'll thrive on the freedom and the chance to use your skills and will be supported with plenty of training and development opportunities.

What's more, you can expect some fab rewards, including an achievable annual bonus, 24 days' holiday (and the option to buy more). Plus, a competitive pension, the perks of your birthday off and an early finish on Fridays, and lots more! Our London Head Office is only a five minute walk from Liverpool Street Station and close to lots of shops, bars and restaurants.
