Associate Director – Supply Chain & Procurement (Construction)

Based in Manchester

£60-70k + Bonus

Due to expansion, our client is looking for an experienced Head of Supply Chain or Supply Chain Director to manage the end to end supply chain activities, including Procurement (Spend around £6m per annum) materials supply and delivery to project sites.

Our client offers all the services needed for the design and delivery of complex multi-space environments for the education, workplace, leisure and care sectors. They provide design strategy, concept development, computer visualisation, FF&E (Furniture, Fixtures & Equipment) and materials specification, technical information and site delivery.

Our commissions range from end to end or any stage of this process. We work to the RIBA (Royal Institute of British Architects) design stages and can work in a full BIM (Building Information Modelling) Level 2 delivery environment.

Role Responsibility

  • Working collaboratively with co-Associate and Executive Directors, the role is a vital member of the Senior Management Team.
  • Responsible and accountable for the end to end supply chain operation and to drive operational excellence throughout each aspect of our services, both internal and external.
  • In conjunction with the Associate Directors leading the design team, technologists and operations; you will lead all aspects of cost planning, cost management, product development, sourcing, inbound supply, manufacturing, logistics and fulfilment; providing operational leadership for a fast-moving business that is expanding into new sectors both in the UK and internationally.  Market analysis, recommendations and oversight of CapEx requirement for purchase and implementation of a new supply chain software system.
  • Key Reports will include: Resource management and gap analysis, Delivery forecast, Project Delivery against critical milestones and Project Margin and Profitability.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and oversee supply chain and business support functions on a day to day basis to deliver high quality services to our customers and stakeholders. Three direct reports with a total team size of eight.
  • Work with the Sales and Marketing teams to ensure delivery against the strategic direction set by the CEO and Board. This includes setting clear targets, financial planning, and risk management.
  • Proactively seek opportunities to improve, develop and enhance our products and services. Deliver effective quality assurance processes which demonstrate adherence to legal and regulatory requirements. Work with operational areas to ensure that effective processes exist and are maintained for all business support.
  • Proactively monitor trends within the business to gain insight and work with the wider senior management team to shape products and services. Ensure that robust data is available to monitor business performance and support strategic decision making.
  • Understand the business aspects of technology, formulate priorities and work with the IT team to deliver against these priorities.
  • Provide regular clear reporting to the CEO and other relevant stakeholders on business and team performance in line with business objective. Work with team managers to identify and implement solutions to issues / problems. Provide training, coaching and mentoring to team members on an ongoing basis and ensure teams maintain their competence in relation to their job roles.
  • To monitor and provide guidance on adequate staffing levels for the business to ensure that we are meeting demands, service levels and can deliver our duties diligently. Maintain and develop own skills, knowledge and behaviours as well as keep up to date with relevant standards and changes.

  • Realising approved on-margins and maintaining overall project profitability
  • Achieving pre-construction/construction project gateways
  • Timely responses to all RFIs and corrective actions
  • Supply chain management; terms, credit, rebates, concentration

Candidate Requirements

  • Operated at a senior level within Supply Chain
  • Proven experience of leading highly effective and diverse teams.
  • Experience of managing projects.
  • Strong track record of delivering results and managing growth.
  • Hands on experience with supply chain management software
  • Degree level educated ideally in Supply Chain Management, Finance, or a similar relevant field and/or relevant industry experience.
  • Demonstrable competency in strategic planning and business development. Understanding of data analysis and performance/operation metrics.
