Supply Chain Customs Manager
Job Description:
Aldi are looking for candidates to support the busy Customs team at our Head Office in Atherstone.
With Assistant, Analyst and Manager roles available, you’ll be responsible for co-ordinating the customs processes and procedures across the business, so it’s vital that you’re proactive, plan ahead and are able to build strong working relationships with our internal and external stakeholders.
In addition to developing and managing a Customs & Excise Team, the Customs Manager plays a vital role within the Corporate Buying Department. You will be responsible for leading a strong internal team and ensure constructive working relationships with internal and external stakeholders of all levels
Key Responsibilities:
- In this role, you will be involved in the management for the completion of assorted HMRC Customs & Excise declarations and assisting the business to ensure it is legally compliant with HMRC Customs & Excise regulations
- You will lead a team whilst keeping focus on key goals and objectives, working collaboratively to deliver success
- Ensure relevant Customs & Excise HMRC returns are met
- Monitor HMRC deferment account and associated guarantee levels
- Provide support to the team on difficult HTS code classifications (using GIR's)
- Be Buying department facing, supporting in Customs & Excise training to internal colleagues, explaining and engaging
- Keep abreast of changes in legislation
- Be proactive, plan ahead, anticipate and manage risks
- Develop and review documented procedures and training material
- Work through issues as they evolve with pace
- Build effective and collaborative relationships and networks, both internal and external
- Ensure the team are multi skilled and ensure sufficient cover during regulatory deadlines
- Develop talent providing training to improve knowledge, skills and competencies
- Drive a positive team culture and develop behaviours
- Encourage the team and peers to generate new ideas
- Spot opportunities, define solutions and create a clear action plan
- Respond to technical queries from internal and external business partners
- Support with the development, design and implementation of internal controls
- Be proactive in managing your personal development
Essential Skills & Qualifications for the role:
- Level 3 certificate in Customs Compliance or higher.
- Educated to relevant degree level with a minimum of 2:1
- Considerable relevant industry Customs Experience
- Experience working with customs data and knowledge of customs legislation
- Experience in a busy, deadline driven environment
- Track record of rolling out new policies and procedural initiative
- Highly focused and accurate with a meticulous eye for detail
- Great team player who works collaboratively with a variety of stakeholders
- Excellent verbal, written communication and administration skills
- Confident using Microsoft Offices packages (incl. Excel)
