Dutton Recruitment are working with a well established client to recruit a Buyer for their Doncaster site!

Main Purpose of the Role

Manage and develop a medium sized spend portfolio of suppliers as instructed by the Category Manager. Specifically co-ordinate Unipart's interface with those suppliers to ensure products and services purchased, lead to improving value and service to the Unipart Rail business and its customers.
Reports to Category Manager.
Responsible for the management of a specific portfolio of suppliers/category - up to a value of approximately £10 million.
Accountable for the performance of their specific suppliers with escalation to Category Manager where necessary.
Accountable for the delivery of cost reduction to agreed targets.
Responsible for obtaining & negotiating bid pricing information for their assigned products & suppliers to support business growth.
Regular & frequent contact with internal & external stakeholders - much of which requires influencing & negotiating skills sometimes with middle/senior managers.
Supplier relationship management is key to delivering on supplier engagement programme & business growth.
Considerable discretion and independence under general guidance but refers to a higher level for policy and professional decisions.
Work largely proactive - little or no direct supervision. Reporting relationship based on reviews of progress against targets and guidance on methodology.
Works to specific Business Regulated Delegated Authorities.
Functional SOP's to be adhered to.

The Candidate:

Work is not straightforward and requires considerable initiative and judgement. Difficult tasks or assignments may be handled.
Ability to compile & analyse data & maintain master data.
Ability to work on own initiative with good written & oral skills.
Effective time & deadline management - ability to prioritise effectively.
High degree of work pressure. Work can require considerable concentration. Consistently high level of quality of service is required. Targets tend to be fixed by external factors. Can be major peaks of pressure.
Knowledge and qualification in a vocational or specialized field short of a degree - e.g. HND.
Must have or be studying towards, a CIPS qualification.
Experience in negotiating contracts.

Determined approach to achievement of goals.
Ability to conduct effective meetings.
