Abatec are currently recruiting for a Buyer to join our client, an expanding and successful South West based construction contractor, based out of their office in Bath. They are looking for someone to support the existing procurement function, reporting directly to the company’s Head Buyer. As part of the commercial and operations team, the role includes negotiation, managing deadlines, an awareness of supply chain and general support of preconstruction, finance, commercial and site management teams. Typically, construction projects include mixed residential schemes, care homes and schools/colleges ranging in value between £3m - £15m.

As a Buyeryou will:

  • Issue enquiries - take off and scheduling as necessary.
  • Raise purchase orders, complying with approval criteria where applicable.
  • Compile and maintain material procurement schedule in line with prevailing programmes.
  • Procure in line with budget & managing material profit & loss for submission in CVR.
  • Review spec / ensure enquiries and orders fully compliant with ER’s / spec.
  • Challenge spec through considered value engineering.
  • Assist estimators / design - obtain quotes/advise on suitable suppliers / obtain samples for planning (in line with 3rd party manufacturer agreements).
  • Liaise with designers (internal and external) and drive design detail to enable enquiries to be issued.
  • Problem resolution - i.e. supplier supply issues & proactive approach applied to mitigate programme delays and cost risk.
  • Promote direct and 3rd party rebate opportunity prior to project delivery and maintain compliance via communication with project teams and subcontractors.
  • Order in line with existing supply agreements - i.e. to help achieve challenging rebate targets.
  • Promptly resolve supplier invoice queries in support of finance team.

Our client requires a Buyer with:

  • Previous experience in a buying / procurement / supply chain / industry related role.
  • Strong communication and negotiation skills.
  • An awareness of budgetary constraints.
  • Construction industry experience.

Salary and benefits include:

  • Salary circa £30,000 - £35,000 DOE
