Job purpose:
Working out of our Flagship Rugby Hub, the role of our Depot Transport Planning Manager is to manage an experienced team who produce the daily transport plans for our 27 Depots. You will need to own the end to end planning and continuous improvement of the Hermes Depot transport Network.
A main focus is to engage with key stakeholders throughout the business to ensure best strategy and deliverables for Depot rotas, Depot cost and new client SME.
About the Role:
Our Depot Transport Planning Manager is a brand new role in our planning and operations department. Working alongside our Hubs Transport Planning Manager, you will report in to our General Manager – Operational Planning and manage a team of 6 Planners.
You will be expected to constantly strive for improvement and create new data models and network processes to optimise the Depot transport operation and be able to produce daily KPI’s and highlight improvement and risk using an Execution TMS and Paragon combined.
You will manage all tasks relevant to the Depot transport plans – host conf calls with Depots and attending area meetings as necessary. The individual will need to be positive confident with analysis and a strong communicator. The key stakeholder you will need to manage will be all Depot General Managers and heads of operations. You will need to influence through the use of statistics the correct plan for the network.
It is critical that the role holder understand the whole Hermes operation and can use this knowledge when making critical planning decisions on a day – to – day basis.

Experience/Qualifications:
- Team Management experience
- Develop, prioritise and assign workloads
- Strong Analytical and excel capability
- Confident in challenging stakeholders and public relations
- Experience of using Paragon planning system for either routing or solution design Engineering
- Ability to work to tight deadlines and maintain clear focus upon priorities
- Responsible for the network wide transport planning function and development of the systems to accompany it including IT systems and Human resource
- Sign off transport plans produced by the team using transport planning software including Paragon and an execution TMS
- Continual review and improvement of transport plan templates to ensure cost effectiveness and optimal resource utilisation. Ensuring any changes are implemented into the team effectively
- Continuously improve the accuracy of plans by providing feedback to the team to ensure consistency and best practise
- Act as an escalation point for team to provide leadership and support to regional planners using your experience of Paragon Planning and depot operations as the subject expert to ensure critical service issues are escalated appropriately and timely.
