Nexus Resource Solutions are working in partnership with a well-established fabrication and engineering company to recruit an experienced Operations Manager.
This is a great opportunity for a candidate from engineering or fabrication background to join a market leader in the fabrication industry. The company have continued to go from strength to strength over recent years and have heavily invested in their capabilities and capacity at their modern facilities in East Lothian.
The Role
The Operations Manager is a senior leadership position reporting to the MD. The scope of the role includes leading Production Planning and Control, Procurement and Inventory Management, Manufacturing Operations, including any outsourced operations, Logistics, Continuous Improvement and Quality.
The incumbent shall optimise and continuously improve productivity, efficiency and quality of all operational functions to meet the financial performance objectives of the business.
Duties and Responsibilities

* Plan, coordinate, manage, monitor and report all activities within the scope of role to ensure overall program plans are achieved.
* In conjunction with the MD, ensure organisational structure, resources, systems and processes are optimised to deliver the operations program based on financial budgets and forecasts.
* As part of the leadership team, define and deliver strategies for growth and enhanced profitability through operational excellence.
* Establish and lead high performing Operations management team with appropriate structure and skills and ensure a competent workforce to deliver the workflow to cost, quality and schedule targets.
* Measure and optimise availability, capacity, productivity, efficiency and quality of all capital equipment required in the production process. Ensure effective maintenance programs are in place.
* Plan and implement labour allocation to maximise efficiencies. Match labour capacity and capability to program execution plan. Ensure a lean approach via multi-skilling, minimise non-productive time, automation opportunities and elimination of non-value add tasks.
* Ensure effective measurement and reporting systems and tools are in place to determine operational performance as a basis for planning and to identify constraints and bottlenecks for improvement.
* Drive StruMIS ERP System to ensure the business is fully utilising its functionality in support of above
* Prepare and control operational budgets after approval by the MD.
* Maintain and improve operations financial performance via operational excellence initiatives.
* Collaborate with the estimation team in the initial contract review process of new projects to ensure customer requirements are planned and scheduled to optimise capacity utilisation and deliver to customer expectations.
* Manage suppliers and contractors to achieve best price, quality and delivery.
* Ensure customer project progress is visible and available and any problems are mitigated.
* Develop meaningful relationships with key accounts to communicate order progress and foster repeat business opportunities
* Drive Continuous Improvement and “Can do attitude” throughout the business.
Authorities, Interface, Reporting and Supervision

* Interface with Estimating / Design / Support Staff.
* Lead internal Operational / Production / Orders on Hand / Forecasting/NCR reviews to report results and follow through on actions.
* Participate in monthly management reviews to present Operations performance and improvement initiatives.
* Communicate and cascade business objectives and progress to operations team
Skills, Experience, Knowledge and Attributes
* At least 5 years senior management experience in a similar role.
* Energy, drive and innovation to lead and inspire to achieve outstanding results
* Commercial acumen including pricing and cost control
* Practical technical knowledge of engineering and manufacturing in a metal fabrication environment.
* Demonstrated capability and understanding of principles of production flow, performance metrics and visual management systems.
* Strong working knowledge of Microsoft packages and StruMIS ERP system
* Excellent communication and inter-personal skills with the ability to influence and lead to get results in an industrial environment
* Can implement project management best practice to deliver to cost, quality and schedule targets
* Knowledge and experience of Continuous Improvement methodologies including Lean, 5S, Kaizen, Six Sigma.
Remuneration:
£60-£65k basic
Up to 40% bonus of annual salary
10% pension contributions
