Senior Operational Risk Manager (Financial Services/Wealth Mgmt/Tech)

Our client is a global, dynamic and high growth fintech that is rapidly becoming a global market leader. Due to continued success and expansion they are looking to recruit an Senior Operational Risk Manager to join their highly successful delivery team.

The successful Senior Operational Risk Manager candidate will ideally have worked with platform/technology within financial services but will certainly have significant experience within banking/wealth management. This is a senior level role and will act as a deputy to the Head of Operational Risk so previous experience of managing small teams would be an advantage, but we will also consider candidates who act as standalone specialists i.e. Consultants. 

One of the elements that makes this role so exciting is that our client is currently reviewing and redesigning their entire risk framework and the successful Senior Operational Risk Manager will have a major input and influence into what that looks like and how it is executed.

Role Description

The objective of the risk team is to deliver, coordinate and continuously develop an effective framework that provides the tools to enable the business to identify, assess, control and monitor risk and through that framework manage risk within the appetite of the business, clients and regulators.

The Senior Operational Risk Manager brings both experience and knowledge of risk management tool and frameworks demonstrated through practical experience and achievements in similar roles. As our client is a technology business, the role requires experience of managing technology risks and change, in addition to a wider experience within operational risk.

The role will support the implementation and maintenance of the Risk Management Framework to support the client’s business plan and the regulatory environment it operates in.

The duties and responsibilities of this role will include the following:

• Providing support and challenge to key business stakeholders in implementing risk management reporting including developing a suite of relevant key risk indicators and responding to regulatory or internal change.
• Representing risk at the appropriate governance committees (including the Change Release Board, Operational Risk Committee and Cass Committee).
• Working closely with the Compliance function to align risk management and compliance approaches.
• Working with operational risk colleagues to ensure a robust and timely risk event, risk reporting and control self-assessment framework.
• Working with the Head of Operational Risk designing, documenting, communicating and implementing the Risk Framework, policies and procedures across all areas of risk – operational, credit, regulatory etc.
• Assisting in the design and delivery an effective, risk assurance programme.
• Advising and providing guidance to senior management and employees on risk management issues, in particular taking the lead regarding technology risk.
• Provide risk management support to product/service development and proposition developments.
• Assisting in embedding a risk control self-assessment framework including relevant upstream and Board level reporting on the effectiveness and efficiency of core operational processes.

Experience Required

• Previous experience in a senior risk management role within Financial Services or an FS platform environment.
• Experience of change risk management and supporting / challenge technology risks
• Working knowledge of FCA, Data regulation and Financial Crime regulations
• Excellent knowledge of industry risk management best practice.
• Experience of developing and implementing management policies and processes.
• Ability to understand and articulate the commercial benefits of effective risk management.
