To police and protect an ever-changing city, the Met must also continually transform and evolve. That means we work in a fast-paced setting, where everyone shares the same goal. Together, we help the UK’s largest police service perform at its very best, so it can keep some 8 million Londoners safe every day. As part of our Commercial Services team, you’ll play your part by making sure our ICT contracts give value for money while meeting the Met’s operational needs.

A key figure within the Commercial Services Senior Leadership Team, you’ll provide advice and commercial support to the CIO, Digital Policing (DP) leadership, and other high-level stakeholders. Through a 25-strong team, you’ll manage the ICT category and critical Met IT contracts, developing category strategies, providing market insight and driving innovation. Your success rests on your ability to build strong links with Business Groups and detailed knowledge of their categories. And naturally, you’ll need to ensure the legal compliance of all Met contracts. With the chance to support the Director of Commercial Services too, you could be liaising with organisations such as the NPCC, APCC and the Home Office.

We’re adopting a lifecycle management approach to delivering commercial services, which means this role is flexible. While your team’s day to day roles may range from managing contracts and strategic supplier relationships to running major procurements, you could find yourself leading on any aspects of the commercial lifecycle, from driving major sourcing activities and developing category plans and commercial strategies, to managing suppliers or large-scale disputes.

An experienced professional who inspires trust and respect, you’ll bring expert knowledge of procurement, contract management and the technology category. You’ll therefore be adept at negotiating substantial contracts, managing strategic procurement and leading large teams, while tackling complex demands and delivering corporate change. With the people skills to build partnerships, influence senior figures and empower staff, you’ll be a major player within Met technology procurement.
