Senior Purchasing Manager opportunity for a unique and well respected organisation with a Global reputation as a centre of excellence in research and development.

An exciting opportunity to join a professional and highly regarded procurement function, responsible for establishing and implementing a complex portfolio of organisation wide procurement strategies in respect of multi-million pound, high risk spend areas.

Senior Purchasing Manager Role:

Reporting to the Director of Purchasing (and deputising as appropriate), you will provide effective procurement leadership to ensure the implemented procurement strategies leverage our clients spend, optimise value for money, support the efficient and cost effective purchase of goods and services and align to the organisations Procurement Strategy.

You will be responsible for developing effective working relationships with senior stakeholders to ensure that the strategies established align to the wider strategic objectives and the needs of devolved departments.

You will also provide professional leadership, management and advice to Buyers and Purchasing Managers within the Purchasing Department and to devolved departments as a trusted advisor. You will set team goals and priorities and manage workload to ensure effective prioritisation of a complex portfolio of tasks. No two days will be the same!

The Person Profile:

We are looking for a procurement leader with an ability to ensure that a high quality procurement service is delivered. You will have experience of leading the development and implementation of category strategies for high value/risk categories and projects, and be adept at developing value-add relationships with suppliers and internal customers. You will have:

  • excellent communication and influencing skills and be experienced in change management.
  • Proven experience of procurement leadership with an ability to ensure a high quality procurement srvice is delivered.
  • Experience of managing multi-million pound procurement projects in complex, cross-functional environments.
  • Experience of leading the development and implementation of category strategies for multi-million pound categories / projects.
  • Experience of negotiating complex commercial and contractual arrangements with suppliers.
  • Experience of establishing and improving purchasing processes and controls.
  • Experience of developing value-add relationships with suppliers and internal customers.
  • Ability to influence at all levels both internally and externally to bring complex matters to conclusion.
  • Good analytical skills (to support the development of evidenced category strategies).
  • Proven experience of highly effective communication skills, both written and orally, in particular communicating information to technical and non-technical audiences at a range of levels.
  • The ability to handle and prioritise a complex portfolio of activity in a challenging environment, particularly co-ordination, organisation, and the ability to focus on achieving deadlines (including effective delegation of appropriate tasks).
  • Effective change manager with a proven track record of proactively analysing and successfully driving change activity in large, devolved and complex organisations.
  • Degree education with relevant post-graduate qualifications (e.g. CIPS, MBA) or equivalent professional experience demonstrating strong intellectual skills.
