The role:
Using category management and strategic relationship management techniques to ensure that the client leverages its full potential spend and achieves best value for money.

Purchasing Manager Responsibilities:

• To identify, develop and implement purchasing strategies for your sub category area in line with customer requirements and departmental objectives
• To develop a robust category management approach to your specific sub category group (ensuring alignment at all times with wider strategies)
• To identify and report on Value for Money activities within your sub category
• To manage direct reports
• Act as local expert and 1st point of contact within the sub category for the client and its Suppliers
• Any other duties that may be required from time to time commensurate with the grade of the job.

Essential selection criteria:

• Educated to degree level or equivalent
• Actively studying for or full member of CIPS
• Proven several years purchasing experience
• Proven management skills
• Proven record of developing strategic plans for the sub category and evidence of successfully executing those plans
• Able to demonstrate driving value for money/savings in the category
• Able to demonstrate continuous improvement initiatives with category specific suppliers and internal customers
• Proven record of ability to negotiate complex arrangements with suppliers
• Proven record of ability to construct and negotiate on contractual terms
• Good analytical skills
• Ability to influence at all levels within the organisation
