Brighton and Sussex University Hospitals (BSUH) NHS Trust is a highly progressive, ambitious university teaching hospital and regional centre for a wide variety of specialist services. With an annual turnover of over £550m there is a clear determination to achieve the Trust’s strategic ambitions, including a £420m redevelopment and transformation of the Trust’s estate – the Teaching, Trauma and Tertiary (3T) Care infrastructure.

The Board is keen to ensure that maximum value is extracted from all commercial activities, while maintaining an absolute commitment to patient safety and quality. BSUH have embarked therefore on a radical transformation of their procurement department. The prime objective of this is to make the Trust more commercial in all its dealings with suppliers, providers and partners, such that there is greatly improved value for money delivered throughout the Trust’s supply chain. This will always be developed though with a clear emphasis and recognition on patient care. This approach will look to merge best practice procurement and supply chain management from both inside and outside of the NHS, such that a truly ‘industry-leading’ service can be delivered.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Senior Category Manager to join the team to lead and develop the IT and Corporate Category. This role offers the right candidate an opportunity to join a team of procurement professionals that are focused on ensuring our services support managers in delivering excellent patient outcomes, whilst meeting the challenging financial targets that the NHS are facing.

You will be responsible for leading the development and delivery of the IT and Corporate Category whilst working with the wider operational teams to create the most advantageous commercial arrangements for the Trust with circa £20m+ expenditure. You will be exposed to strategic procurement projects which will require expertise in the Category and strategic commercial acumen.

The successful candidate will have experience negotiating high-value/complex contracts, establishing supply chains and managing stakeholders at all levels of the Trust. They should be pro-active, flexible and resilient. A strong delivery focus is required, with excellent interpersonal, data-analysis, planning and organisational skills. Strong stakeholder engagement and management skills are essential as is a ’can do’ attitude, with a talent for ‘making it happen’. You can expect to work autonomously and effectively in a fast-paced environment, whilst maintaining the support of key stakeholders.

To be successful in this role the following demonstrable experience and skills will be essential:

  • Developing and delivering long term Category strategies and a programme of a wide range of procurement projects across both IT and Corporate Category with an excellent track record of previous achievements and savings
  • Delivery of the full end to end procurement life cycle and managing key business stakeholders & complex procurement projects • Putting best practice procurement processes in place by using your Category and procurement expertise
  • A good exposure to EU Procurement Directives and experience of running EU compliant tender processes • Strong ability to engage and challenge senior stakeholders
  • Supplier relationship management with the ability to influence the supply base in order to influence it now and in the future with the aim of obtaining maximum supplier contribution

Please apply as early as you're able for this role. Sometimes, we receive exceptional interest, and close adverts earlier than specified.
