About the Buyer Role

Providing their customers with quality products is at the heart of what they do. As a Buyer you will play an essential role in ensuring sales requirements are processed accurately and stock is purchased to meet the company’s needs. You will be responsible for sourcing their wide range of cable products from suppliers worldwide. Your goal will be to ensure the products supplied by their supply chain partners are to the agreed specifications and negotiate the best price for their customers without compromising on quality.

There is considerable expertise and knowledge within the company to support you and you will be expected to develop a deep understanding of the products and supply chain. They are looking for someone with previous buying experience. You will need to demonstrate experience of product purchasing, stock management and negotiation skills with an entrepreneurial flair so they stay ahead of the competition.

They do not buy or sell purely on price; business is so much more interesting than that. If you are only looking to use a calculator to compare prices, this role will not be for you.

Main Duties

  • Processing, monitoring, forecasting, planning and scheduling stock requirements, reordering stock as required
  • Communicating with UK and overseas suppliers by telephone and email, including processing orders, delivery times and pricing issues
  • Negotiating with suppliers and freight companies in the UK and overseas
  • Identifying and sourcing products needed to fulfil back to back requirements
  • Calculating and recording selling prices for new enquiries
  • Examining and holding suppliers answerable for stock delays, shortages and non-conformances
  • Keeping colleagues informed of stock delivery times
  • Liaising with sales/marketing/warehouse regarding deliveries and accounts department on invoice/purchase queries
  • Maintaining close contact and support for the sales team, in order to meet the needs of our customers
  • Managing product file information in our ERP system
  • Collaborating with the purchasing team to ensure the department meets the company’s and customers’ objectives

In addition, you will be required to perform other duties as assigned by the Purchasing Manager from time-to-time.

About you:

  • Previous and recent experience in a B2B buyer role is essential, ideally buying in a technical field (e.g. cabling, engineering, tech, electronics, etc.)
  • Good commercial awareness and business acumen with proven ability to negotiate, recognise and influence opportunities
  • Experience in stock monitoring, planning and forecasting
  • Ability to work to tight deadlines and multi-task under pressure
  • Self-motivated with a willingness to learn our products through the training we provide and through self-development
  • Highly organised with excellent attention to detail
  • Team player and importantly a 'can-do’ attitude
  • CIPS qualification (or working towards) would be a strong advantage
