How would you like to manage a busy transport operation in Carlisle? Do you enjoy managing staff and developing your team to meet business objectives? Are you great with people and customers? Willing to "get stuck in" and motivate others?

We are pleased to exclusively recruit for a large private transport company in the Carlisle area. Our client is looking for an experienced People Manager to join their company on a permanent basis in the role of Operations Manager. There is a competitive salary of £35,000 on offer for the right person. The position is Monday to Friday 40 hours a week. Unlike other transport industry jobs there is no weekend working as the operation as a whole operates only during the week.

The successful candidate would be working with a team of around 20 staff to develop and encourage a collaborative and innovative culture. You would be responsible for 12 drivers who operate Monday to Friday across the UK, 6 Warehouse staff and 2 office support staff. You would be expected to manage customers and deal with any issues and situations that require management authorisation and experience.

Is this job right for you?

To be considered for this role you will be expected to have previous experience managing a team of staff in an operational/warehouse or transport environment. You will be a consultative, positive and enthusiastic people manager who has experience of dealing with HR matters, recruitment and rotas.

You will be the senior point of contact for the operation in Carlisle and therefore need to show maturity and confidence in your approach with customers as well as staff.

Reporting to the Contracts Manager who is based out of county, you will make up a quarter of the company management team. The Contract Manager will be based in Carlisle once a week to provide you with support and training and is keen to work with the successful candidate to imbed the company culture.
