A public sector organisation based in Exeter is currently recruiting for a permanent full-time Category Manager (indirects) to join their procurement team. This organisation is recognised as being one of the best employers in the UK.

  • Reporting directly to the Head of Procurement and being part of a Team of Category Managers.
  • Deliver the agreed category strategies and plans to generate benefits and to achieve the financial target to release targeted annual cash savings each financial year - across a portfolio of categories and sub-categories (indirect services / professional services)
  • End to end category management using frameworks and OJEU /PCR2015
  • Develop and drive significant change and transformation in Procurement services by developing category management and effective procurement practices and processes. 
  • Build effective relationships with sponsors, stakeholders, technical staff and colleagues to develop long term approaches to procurement and capture future requirements.  Provide them with customer-focused insights to support their strategic planning and operational activity. Implement strategy and process improvements with stakeholders to improve demand forecasting and benefits profiling.
  • Find and analyse expenditure and other data, using standard software and procurement methods to produce rigorous, credible and fact-based sourcing campaigns that satisfy stakeholder needs
  • Develop category or sub-category strategies and plans to deliver financial targets in cashable savings.  Assist others to develop plans or programmes, or implement your plans elsewhere in the procurement process. 
  • Manage your process of sourcing new suppliers and gain best value ensuring the most appropriate method and compliance with law and contractual requirements.
  • Implement the resulting supplier deals, contracts or framework agreements so they fully deliver the planned benefits across the complete procurement process. 
  • Coach and support other procurement specialists, customers and process enablers to improve performance and benefits.
  • Provide clear leadership to stakeholders to ensure demand and savings targets are maximised.
  • Build supplier relationship management plans with tangible benefits identified, and actively manage strategic suppliers to maximise value

Candidate profile

  • Knowledge and understanding of Integrated ERP or e-procurement systems
  • Public Contracts Regulations and OJEU
  • Experience of working with distributed or multi-site organisations.
  • MCIPS Qualified or studying- desirable
  • Successful track record in embedding and applying  strategic sourcing / category management methodology 
  • Previous experience in purchasing, sourcing, supply chain or contract management
