Purpose of the Job:
Reporting to the Purchasing Manager, you will develop and execute local purchasing strategies in line with Global purchasing policies. This will include sourcing, tendering and assessing new products/vendors as well as conducting negotiations with prospective and existing suppliers with the intention of reducing costs, mitigating purchasing risks and optimising both stock levels and the scheduling of goods and services. 


Principal Accountabilities:

  • Deputise for the Purchasing Manager during holidays/absence and whenever the main workload of the Purchasing Specialist role allows.
  • Develop and execute local purchasing strategies in line with Global purchasing guidelines/policies including the tendering of work to a minimum of 3 vendors for all expenditure above the set limit.
  • Develop, track and report key purchasing metrics to reduce cost and improve effectiveness.
  • Develop negotiation strategies and close deals with suppliers with optimal terms.
  • Liaise with other functions within the business to ensure that the technical specifications of products/services to be procured are clearly defined ie; Engineering.
  • Source and assess new products/vendors and negotiate competitive prices.
  • Assess, manage and mitigate purchasing risks to the Grimsby factory and/or our client.
  • Determine quantity, timing and cost of deliveries.
  • Monitor and forecast future levels of stock, goods and/or services in liaison with other functions.
  • Provide the logistical interface between suppliers and our clients central purchasing such that supplies to the business are scheduled to be delivered when required.
  • Ensures weekly raw material stock checks are carried out.
  • Document and maintain appropriate SHE procedures for purchased materials and services as well as the receipt of goods/materials to the site.
  • Manage the storage of consumables in accordance with ISO9000/14000.
  • Ensure Vendor assessments are conducted to ensure conformity to set standards.
  • Ensure that internal and external Safety, Health & Environmental standards are met in terms of both work performance and behaviour.

Candidate Requirements:

  • Experience within a Manufacturing Environment, ideally purchasing Raw Materials.
  • Graduate calibre, CIPS qualified.
  • Structured and an analytical thinker with excellent negotiating skills.
  • Excellent communicator with good interpersonal skills.
