James Walker, Cockermouth, is a leader in the manufacture and supply of high performance seals and gaskets to a broad international customer base.  It has an excellent reputation for the quality of its products and design capability and it supplies multiple sectors and industries both UK and globally.  It has a significant product base with a high percentage being manufactured on a bespoke basis.  The Cockermouth site is a well-established group business with in excess of 350 colleagues, it is a modern, unionised, manufacturing environment and the logistics, warehouse and transportation function is pivotal to the site. 

This key role reports to the Group’s off-site based Supply Chain Director and it also has a strong link into the local site leadership team.  Broad ranging it incorporates all inbound and outbound activity, the warehouse and also responsibility for managing the group’s third party provider of transportation services.  There is an experienced team in place in the warehouse which manages inbound raw materials, supplies manufacturing operations on a JIT basis, outbound finished goods and in the warehouse there is also intermediary picking and packing operations.  The management of the third party transportation provider is also pivotal and your focus will be to ensure that SLA’s and associated KPI’s are achieved.  Other key  elements include  ensuring world-class levels of Health & Safety, driving continuous improvement initiatives, developing and leading a high performing team through well-defined KPI’s, ensuring a right first time mentality throughout  and involvement in ongoing projects such as a new cloud based ERP system. 

A high calibre individual on an upward trajectory in their career is required. You will need to be graduate qualified in business administration, logistics or supply chain and ideally have further qualifications such as 6 Sigma Black Belt and APICS certification. You will have built an impressive career to date in similar warehouse/distribution operations and this will need to have been in manufacturing environments, ideally ones that are unionised. You will have excellent communications and leadership skills and be experienced in optimising logistics operations and delivering continuous improvement. This is a superb career opportunity and an excellent time to be joining this successful group which offers long term stability and real potential to make a difference.  You will be expected to live within the area which offers a highly attractive work, lifestyle balance and the benefits package is as expected of a significant group.
