Cordius is working with an innovative, fast-growing UK company that develops, sources and markets educational equipment and supplies to schools and nurseries.
Location: Derby
Salary: £25,000 - £35,000

Now they are looking for an experienced and qualified Buyer/ Purchaser to join their friendly, supportive team. The ideal candidate will improve and drive company’s purchasing strategies, negotiate best terms, initiate supplier development and partnerships.
Key Responsibilities:
- Place orders and schedule delivery dates
- Deliver KPI’s on stock availability, delivery dates and savings
- Build and sustain relationships with suppliers, warehousing and research teams
- Work as a part of a team
- Invoice preparation and sign off for payments
- Organise and manage shipments on weekly basis from Europe to UK while keeping costs down
- Write weekly reports
- New product development and sample requests while ensuring products meet the set specification
- Actively increase the width of the key supply base to remove capacity hotspots
- Strategically develop suppliers with increase T/O
- Re-source unavailable products and deliver required margin, process improvements and set saving targets
- Negotiate and improve prices/lead times as required
Key Skills:
- At least 3-4 years’ experience in a purchasing position
- A good level of education or qualified through equivalent professional experience
- Experience of dealing with suppliers and the ability to build good relationships is essential
- Good negotiation skills
- Create significant and demonstrable impact through results in a similar role
- Significant experience of importing from European Countries
- Experience of ordering stock and accurate stock control, scheduling supplier workload is essential
- Excellent problem solving and data-analysis ability
- Expert working knowledge of MS Excel and strong on systems.
- High level of experience in scheduling suppliers work
- Excellent communication skills
- Track record of being organised, working to deadlines and performing in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to work with minimal supervision yet remaining a team player
- Ability to resolve conflicts and negotiate effectively
- Experience of mail order would be an advantage
- Languages would be an advantage (Lithuanian, Polish or Russian would be ideal)
- Ability to travel for work 6-8 times a year
