Organisation Description

Based in Hatfield my client develops and markets innovative, high quality medicines throughout the world. Working across the spectrum of pharmaceuticals and consumer health, chemicals and food additives, production systems and equipment, this is a human healthcare company that actively participates with, and contributes to, any healthcare system.

The company is now looking for a Category Manger to join their base here in the UK to work with large clients and projects. A lot of this will involve liaising with clients and suppliers from other countries so an additional European language is required (French essential, Italian and Spanish desirable).

The main purpose of the role is to drive efficiency of the Procurement/ Business Effectiveness (BE) operation across EMEA by managing Procurement Services markets, expenditure and relevant stakeholders in line with agreed goals and strategies for the France, Italy and Spain affiliates and some EKC spends by applying best practice procurement and stakeholder management tools as requested to optimise Business Effectiveness.

Duties of the position -

• Lead businesses effectiveness/ procurement for allocated affiliates achieving agreed annual saving targets

• Analyse, understand and co-ordinate procurement markets and internal stakeholders to ensure that value for money is achieved

• Control & monitor expenditure to ensure VFM is maximised utilising spend analyses from SAP

• Participate and where appropriate lead the introduction of cross functional working across procurement services that will deliver more focused, knowledge creating and cost effective service.

• Construct, negotiate and achieve optimal ‘commercial’ terms and conditions that enable the Legal team to agree ‘contractual’ terms and conditions optimal to the company in supplier engagement

• Manage appropriate paperwork for purchasing

• Provide commercial expertise to Procurement stakeholders

• Carry out strategic analysis on procurement markets and determine implementation criteria

• Sell strategies to stakeholders to ensure commitment, buy in and adhere to procurement SOPs and policies

• Champion, manage and optimise services owned by BE internally; eg Contract Signature Authorisation Forms

• Lead supplier relationships/ resilience management (SRM) projects across the business identifying actions to the business benefit through Quarterly Business Reviews

• Training of staff on BE policies and initiatives (SOPs, SPITfire!, Value For Money and areas owned by BE)

• Support translation of department material into local languages-

Person Specification

Requirements for this role are -

• Qualified to Degree level or equivalent

• Procurement qualification or equivalent

• Excellent written and spoken English and French

• Good written and spoken Italian and Spanish

• Demonstrated experience in Procurement with some of this being at Category Manager/ Senior Buyer level

• Experience in pharmaceutical procurement, ideally international

• Knowledge and experience of current purchasing best practise

• Experience in buying professional services in a Blue Chip environment

• Ability to network

• Able to work in a face paced environment

• Ability to understand work within a matrix organisation
