As a leading operator in our field, Hackney Markets Service deliver a 'Best in Class’ service providing innovative ways to Develop and operate Markets and Street trading activities. This is an exciting time to join the Markets and Street Trading Team, following a year of unprecedented double digit growth in an age where our high streets are shrinking and retail chains are closing down Hackney is leading the way for other local authorities in expanding and growing our portfolio across the borough.

This is a newly-created role to sustain and build on successful work, initiatives and established partnerships in markets and street trading across the borough. You will be leading the most innovative and successful markets service in London and managing a portfolio of sites that include some of London's most Iconic retail sites such as Broadway Market, Ridley Road and Hoxton Street Market.

You will also be responsible for the development of policies and procedures for enforcement of licence conditions, capitalising on commercial opportunities and growing the overall income generation, whilst balancing statutory responsibilities for managing trader compliance to their licencing conditions. You will also manage a large team of customer service and enforcement officers, who are essential for the efficient & consistent delivery of a high quality service.

As an experienced commercial operator with a commitment to providing excellent customer-focused services. You will be flexible and confident working both as part of a team and independently and will have a good working knowledge of relevant statutory legislation. With a proven track record in resource and performance management you will be an exceptional communicator and negotiator.

You will require excellent communication skills, as a key part of the role is to liaise regularly with traders, elected members, Stakeholders and other boroughs as well as the various regulatory bodies. You will need to be confident in managing challenging behaviours and situations and to work in partnership with licensed market traders, visiting market operators and market management contractors.

We are looking for a passionate and results oriented Management professional. This role will appeal to someone with a passion for customer service and continuous improvement, keen to participate in development activities and work with minimal supervision.

If you have excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to motivate your team to deliver day-to-day activities and can collaborate across the organisation to deliver our KPIs and targets, this job is for you. The role offers a great opportunity to work in a unique, challenging but rewarding position critical to the organisation, managing a highly-motivated team that has consistently achieved their challenging targets.

You will need demonstrable experience of working within a fast-paced and varied membership or customer service environment at a management level with proven ability to problem solve, multitask and work under pressure to meet tight and sometimes conflicting priorities. Experience of day-to-day team management and the ability to work with CRM databases at an advanced level is essential. A suitable candidate will be educated to degree level or have equivalent work experience. You’ll be a strategic thinker, a relationship-builder and a powerful influencer. As this is a senior-level role, the ability to manage staff in a performance-oriented culture is key.
