Warehouse Shift Manager

The Company

We are delighted to be working with a national 3PL business that are expanding an existing, and successful retail operation. This site operates two large retail contracts which are both household names. They value honesty, integrity and ambition in their employees. They also operate a guaranteed e-commerce next day delivery service from the site in Burton.

The Role

The is a fantastic opportunity to work as a Warehouse Shift Manager and be responsible for the management of around 150 operatives, with several FLMs and Team leaders reporting into you on a typical shift. Reporting to an Operations Manager you will also be responsible for the implementation of service requirements and continual improvement of cost efficiency as well as quality of service.

Other Responsibilities include:

• The management of a variety of Distribution Centre functions including Goods Inwards, Put-away, Replenishment, Picking, and Despatch.
• Effective leadership of First Line Managers, Team Leaders and operatives.
• Ensuring Daily and weekly workload planning and volume forecasting routines are accomplished.
• Motivating staff and driving a culture of health and safety and continuous improvement.
• Management of stock movements using the WMS system.
• Labour & demand planning - construction and preparation of daily & weekly rotas/holidays/overtime hours of warehouse colleagues to deliver the warehouse plan.
• Reporting on the performance of the various teams within the shift, focussing on meeting agreed targets and goals.
• Monitor key cost drivers to meet budgeted expectations. This will involve a thorough understanding of labour requirements and the ability to express these truthfully.
• Liaising with agencies to ensure the necessary cover and training of temporary workers to support during weekends
• Striving to meet and exceed the budgeted KPI’s with awareness of the financial implications of your decision making.

Working Hours

Any 5 days from 7, although predominantly Monday to Friday. Rotating 06:00 - 14:00, and 14:00 - 22:00.

The Skills Required

The successful candidate for the position of Warehouse Shift Manager will have worked in this position before in another retail operation.

Applicants must be able to evidence the following upon their CV.

• Minimum 2 years experience in Warehouse Management.
• Ideally 2 years experience in a fast paced retail warehouse operation.
• You will have successfully managed a team of 100+ operatives, clearly demonstrable on your CV.
• You will be a customer centric, people orientated, and target driven individual.
• A thorough understanding of inventory control and stock movements.
• Outstanding motivator and leader of staff.
• Experience of demand planning.
• Project Management skills, the ability to lead and carry out from start to finish a successful project.
• Prince 2 and/or 6 sigma desirable.
• IOSH or NEBOSH desirable
• Competency of WMS systems and excellent Excel skills
• The ambition and ability to work at a higher level.
