Growing, high quality, ambitious consulting firm with a strong reputation for delivering complex transformation projects and programmes across the UK and internationally are looking for a People & Ops Manager for a 4/5 month maternity cover contract

The role will be accountable for helping to build a robust people function that forms a platform for the company's growth. In outline, the role will be accountable for:

  • Recruitment: ensuring an optimal and diverse flow of new talent for the business
  • Motivation and retention: developing and retaining existing staff
  • Deployment: managing the staffing process including running the weekly Operations call and maximising allocation of roles to development needs
  • Strategy: implementing a road map that ensures the People function evolves and supports our business over time
  • Technical: advisory on technical HR and employment matters. A business understanding is required but you don't need to me an expert in Employment Law other than knowing when to ask for external assistance
About the role

The People and Operations Manager is responsible for providing expert HR and talent management input and leadership in addition to a number of critical operational and communication activities. You will be responsible for the following activities:

  • Recruitment:
    • Developing and managing the talent strategy, execution plan and budget for the year
    • Working with the Partners to drive workforce planning and management of internal talent in a best practice but fit for purpose way
    • Defining the employee value proposition (EVP) and maximizing this to support attraction and retention. Including defining and promoting the employer brand to the external market
    • Working with selected Business Schools to develop a programme for internships throughout the year with a view to this being a channel for Analyst and Consultant recruitment
  • Motivation and Retention
    • Defining and introducing a succession planning programme for the next phase of the organisation's development
    • Conducting a review of the career framework and appraisal process and revise as necessary, according to the business's culture and value
    • Advise the Partner team on reward and remuneration benchmarks and trends including employee benefit
    • Reviewing training courses and delivery modes. Working with the Partners and Principals to develop a training curriculum that meets the business's key priorities and the developmental needs of the consulting team
    • Directing development of an effective communications plan to ensure employees are engaged with the company aims and objectives, understand and can support current business priorities
  • Learning & Development
    • Creating a road map for the evolution of Talent Management that has the agreement of the Partners and the wider support of the organisation
    • Adapting the road map as necessary to ensure that it provides a foundation for continued growth
  • Operations
    • Report to partner responsible for HR for sharing any People issues at the monthly management meeting
    • Add colour to the monthly reporting packs re utilisation, employee gross margins etc.
    • Manage training, recruitment and social budgets including operational responsibility for off-sites

The ideal candidate for this role, you will:

  • Be a senior consulting professional with a talent or change management background. You are likely to have worked with a major consulting organisation, or in a highly skilled employee base setting
  • Be intellectually and commercially astute, with strong business partnering and influencing skills, able to build credibility quickly at all levels of the organisation
  • Have a strong operational and strategic knowledge of end-to-end 'best practice' talent management and how to adapt this to the business need
  • Have experience of creating succession planning systems and processes to support growth, devising relevant KPI's and measuring outputs and effectiveness.
