Job Title:              Site Operations Manager (Quarry)
Location:              Morley, Leeds
Salary:                 £36,000 - £40,000 Dependant on experience
Hours of work:      7.00am – 17.00pm Monday to Friday (with some Saturdays)

Due to continuing success and growth our client has a superb opportunity for an experienced Manager to join their rapidly developing organisation that provides a range of minerals, aggregates recycling, waste management and landfill services.  

Job Purpose:
To ensure that all site/quarry operations and day to day quarry management is carried out safely and efficiently in line with company procedures, health and safety requirements, environmental controls and management systems.

Job Role:
Reporting to the Operations Director, you will be responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the Quarry which includes management of clay extraction, stockpiling and sandstone extraction. 

To ensure the site operations are undertaken in a safe and efficient manner and that all plant and equipment are maintained and operated correctly and that the site is compliant with all relevant health and safety requirements.

You will also have to ensure the quarry is operated in accordance with the site EPR Permit and Planning Permission conditions and to ensure the site operates in an environmentally safe and compliant manner. 

You will manage the day to day operations of a small team comprising weighbridge staff and plant operators.

All applicants should have experience of H&S and HR practices.

Key Responsibilities

Safety Management
• To ensure the health, safety and welfare of all employees, contractors, and visitors whilst they are on site. 
• To maintain a high level of health and safety awareness and to be proactive in identifying safety issues, risk assessment and undertaking work in a safe controlled manner.
• To ensure that all plant and equipment is maintained and operated in a safe and efficient manner and ensure all staff have the correct level of training and capability to undertake their work in a safe manner.

People Management
• To responsibly lead and manage the site staff and to provide a high level of motivation and to develop individual potential where appropriate.
• To provide staff administration and record keeping working closely with Head Office staff. 
• To complete and check weekly staff returns to HR Department.
• To manage day to day staff issues such as probation, holiday cover, discipline, training.
• To organise holiday cover, temporary labour and sickness cover as required.

Ideal Candidate:
• Be a confident communicator (both written and verbal) able to communicate effectively with site staff, visitors, and regulators.
• Be a good team worker with ability to listen, lead and motivate as required.
• Must have sound problem solving and judgement skills and be able to make a decision and act on it.
• Must have strong people management skills
• Be able to work on his/her own initiative and be proactive 
• Be honest and reliable
• Be hardworking
• Be action orientated and decisive with good planning skills
• Must have minerals recovery and quarrying experience
• Must be familiar with working with heavy mobile plant and equipment.
• Would ideally hold an IOSH Managing Safely Qualification
• Must have experience of operating under Environmental Permits .
• Have experience of IT systems including Microsoft Excel, capable of collating spreadsheets and data files.
