New Role – Distribution Operations Manager – Preston - £27-32k - Apply now!

Working for one of Preston’s well established, family run businesses you will be ensuring that the warehouse is coordinated as effectively and efficiently as possible. This is a permanent full time role to add to their existing successful team.

The Distribution Operations Manager is responsible for the overall safety, quality, performance, and service commitments of the inbound and outbound distribution centre operations.  This includes but is not limited to driving creation of quality initiatives, process change initiatives, and other lean initiatives to enable the distribution centre to exceed business plans and objectives. 

You will be required to set and clarify requirements and expectations of the Warehouse Managers and Supervisors by measuring performance, providing feedback, and maintaining high levels of accountability.  You will work closely with support staff to build and secure support for projects and initiatives at the distribution centre.  You will also work closely with the Chief Operating Officer to influence and implement corporate strategic plans.

Duties and responsibilities:

  • To create and work within a strict operational budget
  • Manage annual, monthly, and daily goals for various productivity and quality levels
  • Develop labour models and productivity tracking tools to manage the day-to-day work plan
  • Manage, train, and develop the warehouse managers and supervisors in hiring, training, planning, assigning and directing work, appraising performance, rewarding and coaching associates, addressing complaints, and removing obstacles
  • Manage, train, and develop the fleet manager and drivers, to deliver safely, efficiently, and according to world class standards.
  • Oversee the day to day management of the apprenticeships programme
  • Manage and supervise the Distribution Centre Trade Counter
  • Use techniques in motivation, enthusiasm and dedication to deliver results within strict timeframes
  • Be flexible, as our fulfilment facility may operate in multiple shifts and as full week operations to support business needs
  • Manage cross-functional teams to identify, prioritize, plan and implement process improvement opportunities
  • Train, mentor, and coach associates, supervisors and managers on appropriate productivity process and procedures
  • Define problems through gathering data, establishing facts, and drawing valid conclusions in order to make adjustments to the facility that operates in a constantly changing business environment
  • Think critically through changing priorities and use sound judgment in stressful situations
  • Participation in budget preparation, revenue and account analyses, as needed by COO
