Fairalls (Builders’ Merchants) Ltd is a privately owned and run business, operating across Surrey, Kent & Sussex. As well as a depot at Taylors Hill, Godstone, Surrey ( one of the largest builders’ merchants depots in the south east ), Fairalls trades from locations in Godstone High Street (our main office and light side depot) and also depots at Gatwick and Sevenoaks, alongside our online store delivering throughout most of Surrey, Sussex and Kent.

Due to expansion across the business we are looking to recruit an Operations Manager to work closely with the directors and the existing management team on both the day to day management of the branches and to assist in inter departmental cooperation, coordination and communication.

Key duties will include ensuring that all departments and personnel abide by company working practices and systems with a focus on

Staff management including

  • Reviews and appraisals, skills and development

Compliance, systems and working practices

  • Setting structures and Implementing across the business, assessing practicalities and cost implications

GDPR

  • Monitor compliance
  • Respond to information requests in line with policy
  • Ensure company abides by GDPR legislation

The role will also involve working alongside existing management team members, to oversee the following.

Health & Safety Management

  • Routine, culture, suggesting improvements

Transport Department

  • Efficiency and measurement, cost v return

Sales Representative team and management of branch sales

  • Measure, improve and manage. Customer profile & development

Stock management

  • Fixed parameters, cost implications, practical implications, hidden costs (stock transfers)

Property/Facilities

  • Depot layout and structure including warehouses, trade counters and yards

Supplier relationships and purchasing

  • Scheduled meetings and reviews, business development plans, interaction with buying society

Throughout the successful execution of the role a focus on team building and excellent communication should be maintained

Qualities required:

The successful candidate will be flexible and versatile with confident decision-making abilities.

They must be proactive in their approach towards daily operations and a good communicator.

They must be able to work on their own initiative but also as part of a larger management team.

A proven track record within a Managerial role in the Builders' Merchant industry is essential.

Previous personnel management experience.

Pay:

Basic rates of pay will be in the vicinity of £45,000-£55,000 per annum, depending on qualifications and experience. The company complies with its legal obligations on pay and government pension scheme availability.

Holiday Entitlement:

In addition to all Bank Holidays off full-time staff accrue 20 days paid holiday per annum.

Working Hours:

Full time hours for this position would be 42 ½ hours per week. Normal working hours would be Monday to Friday 07:30-17:00.
