Special Needs Transport Manager - MG1 (£45k to £52k)

Harrow Council is the 12th largest London Borough by area and one of the most culturally diverse local authorities in the UK, making it a great place to live, work and visit. Located 10 miles from the city centre and just 13 minutes to Euston from Harrow & Wealdstone station there are great transport links via the Metropolitan Line, Watford DC Line and national rail service. It is easily accessible to the M1, M25 and A406.

This is a fantastic opportunity for a Special Needs Transport Manager to join the Transport Services team. Reporting into the Head of Transport Services, the post holder will lead and manage the Special Needs Transport Service for both Harrow and Brent.

The post holder will be responsible for providing reliable, efficient, responsive and effective service to ensure that children and adults with significant and complex special educational needs can access school and day centre provisions.

This will include overseeing and supervising a team of coordinators to allocate route scheduling work, adding and removing service users from the client database, inviting bids from a framework of taxi contactors to run routes and liaising with schools, parents and professional organisations on a day to day basis.

In addition the post holder will have direct line management responsibility for both the administrative and operational staff of the service and be responsible for the development of policies and procedures.

To be successful in this role you would need to have the below skills & experience:

  • Significant managerial and operational experience in a high pressure environment.
  • Knowledge of Special Needs Transport and Local Authority environment is highly desirable.
  • Experience of managing a large workforce.
  • Excellent understanding and working knowledge of ICT solutions including Microsoft packages Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook. Knowledge of route scheduling software is highly desirable.
  • Broad working knowledge of all relevant legislation relating to transporting vulnerable children and adults.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Extensive experience in producing reports and analysing data.
  • Contract management skills are desirable.

The role is full time 36 hours and permanent with a 10am start time.
