Category Buyer

The Company:

Nigel Wright Supply Chain and Procurement Division are working exclusively with a leading engineering company in the North East as they look to appoint into the role of Category Buyer.

The Role:

Reporting directly into a Purchasing Manager, you will be responsible for materials' purchasing and commodity strategy development for multiple business units. Key elements within your remit will include:

• New supplier sourcing/strategy development in line with company strategy and growth plans
• Commodity strategy planning
• Representing Procurement as a Commodity Lead on key projects/NPI
• Supplier development/performance management - implementing SLAs, cost reduction
• Commodity pricing analysis
• Liaising closely with internal functions - engineering, production, quality
• Maintaining data integrity within ERP system

The Person:

The ideal candidate will have/be:

• Proven purchasing track record from within an engineering/high volume manufacturing environment
• Good understanding of engineering principles including ability to interrogate technical drawings
• Exposure to project-based purchasing and commodity structured purchasing
• Commodity experience - castings, steel, fasteners, machined components beneficial
• Data analysis-/detail driven
• Resilient, confident in challenging resistance
• Excellent relationship builder, negotiator and influencer - external suppliers and internal stakeholders
