The Company:
Nigel Wright Supply Chain and Procurement Division are working exclusively with a leading engineering company in the North East as they look to appoint into the role of Category Buyer.
The Role:
Reporting directly into a Purchasing Manager, you will be responsible for materials' purchasing and commodity strategy development for multiple business units. Key elements within your remit will include:
- New supplier sourcing/strategy development in line with company strategy and growth plans
- Commodity strategy planning
- Representing Procurement as a Commodity Lead on key projects/NPI
- Supplier development/performance management - implementing SLAs, cost reduction
- Commodity pricing analysis
- Liaising closely with internal functions - engineering, production, quality
- Maintaining data integrity within ERP system
The Person:
The ideal candidate will have/be:
- Proven purchasing track record from within an engineering/high volume manufacturing environment
- Good understanding of engineering principles including ability to interrogate technical drawings
- Exposure to project-based purchasing and commodity structured purchasing
- Commodity experience - castings, steel, fasteners, machined components beneficial
- Data analysis-/detail driven
- Resilient, confident in challenging resistance
- Excellent relationship builder, negotiator and influencer - external suppliers and internal stakeholders
