NRG is delighted to be working exclusively with an established, not for profit organisation in the Newcastle area in their pursuit of finding a Director of Finance & Operations. Reporting directly to the CEO, this is a newly created position with emphasis on driving performance, leading and overseeing the operation within the Newcastle Head Office.

You will work collaboratively to develop and implement a strategic operational plan, developing policies and structure, overseeing organisational growth and leading the senior management team.

Key duties & responsibilities:

  • To effectively run and manage day to day key operations at Head Office
  • Lead the Senior management team, comprising of several departments (HR, L&D, Sales & marketing etc.)
  • With a direct reporting line into the Chief Executive, you will be required to liaise closely and maintain an effective line of communication on all operational matters, this will include acting as an advisor to the Board as required and producing MI reporting as required.
  • To be responsible for day to day financial management of the Organisation and its companies, liaising with external accountants to create and monitor all budgets, monthly and annual accounts and audit.
  • Liaising with Heads of Departments on internal budgets, ensuring astute financial management and controls are in place.
  • To deliver operations on budget, to manage budget forecasting and to demonstrate prudent financial management.
  • Reporting to CEO, Board & Audit & Risk committee as required.
  • To upgrade, streamline and implement existing policies, procedures and internal controls, and to develop a strategic operations plan, with a view to enhancing structure, operations, performance and communications within a growing team.
  • To contribute to the development of the Organisation’s strategic goals and objectives, as well as the overall management of the organisation.
  • To end monitor staff performance and development goals, review accountabilities, set objectives, establish priorities, conduct appraisals and manage performance, administer salary adjustments.
  • To Mentor and develop staff using a supportive and collaborative approach, monitoring results.
  • To develop and manage the Organisation’s resources and functions appropriately, including IT, CRM functions, ensuring efficiencies.
  • To ensure that the business performs all operations within a compliant environment.
  • To deputise for the CEO to the Board, if required.

Person Specification:

  • Business or Accounting degree or equivalent is essential - Ideally a Professional Finance Qualification (CIMA/ACA/ACCA etc)
  • Demonstrated experience in a senior management role, ideally with in-house financial management experience.
  • A proven track record of success facilitating progressive organisational change
  • Excellent judgement and creative problem solving skills including negotiation and conflict resolution skills
  • Strong mentoring and coaching experience to a team with diverse levels of experience
  • Team player with a flexible attitude, willing to be have a 'hands-on’ approach with strong project management
  • Superior management skills; ability to influence and engage direct and indirect reports and peers
  • Ability to operate as an effective tactical as well as strategic thinker.

The successful candidate will be an experienced and well-qualified individual, with substantial experience in organisational development, people management, project management, strategic leadership and finance management. This is a very 'hands on’ role and a proven track record of creative problem solving and change management is essential.
