Job Details

One of Europe's leading passenger transport providers has created a new role for a Procurement Category Manager to focus on Indirect expenditure.

Working as part of the strategic Central procurement team, you will influence a spend of £70m across a variety of Indirects categories including HR (contingent labour), Professional Services (Legal, occupational health, insurance etc) and taxis.

You will use your communication and influencing skills to work with Executive level stakeholders, to build trust, understand business requirements, challenge the norm and deliver value through the procurement processes. 

This is a large organisation with multiple sites and multiple stakeholders.  This means you must feel confident to map a fragmented stakeholder base, build your network and seek out opportunities and use data, not opinions, to win over stakeholders. You must be comfortable and confident to identify and scope business opportunities, motivate and develop project teams and run procurement projects at pace. 

Cost savings are important to the busy but you will be able to bring broader value to the business by looking at other areas such as whole life costs, sustainability, risk and value-add. You will operate in a matrix structure and collaborate with, and support, multiple local procurement teams across the UK on procurement best practice, leveraging opportunities and dispute resolution.  

Reporting into the UK Procurement Director, you will be able to demonstrate delivery in non-traditional ways of working and not be afraid to change specifications or probe into complex contract, rather than just running tenders.  This is a Private Sector organisation and do not have to follow OJEU.

Key responsibilities include:

• Category Management - developing category plans for Indirect spend to include plans for individual sourcing projects, identifying cost saving benefits and timeframes.  Running regular category review meetings with key stakeholders, up to Executive level
• Strategic Sourcing – developing sourcing strategies to achieve annual savings targets though spend analysis, market research, developing specifications, drafting tender documentation and running tenders and contract management. 
• Supplier Relationship Management (SRM) – creating an SRM programme with suppliers to include continuous improvement
• Stakeholder Management – creating buy-in, building credibility and attending Commercial Forums to get a better understanding of business requirements
• Innovation – generating new process improvement possibilities through the category management process and delivering new revenue generating ideas via the supply base

Skills and experience required:
• Procurement professional with 5 years+ experience and category management skills in Indirect spend
• Experience of working in a large, complex and matrix structured organisation with limited processes and structure
• Graduate calibre (Degree)
• Proven experience of devising and delivering category strategy development as well as excellent negotiation skills
• Change agent with project management skills
• Track record of engaging with and educating senior stakeholders
• A self-starter with the ability to build your own work load and prioritise
• Flexible to do some weekly UK travel
