Senior Procurement Opportunities at Brighton and Sussex Universities Hospital (BSUH)

Brighton and Sussex University Hospitals (BSUH) NHS Trust is a highly progressive, ambitious university teaching hospital and regional centre for a wide variety of specialist services. With an annual turnover of over £550m there is a clear determination to achieve the Trust’s strategic ambitions, including a £420m redevelopment and transformation of the Trust’s estate – the Teaching, Trauma and Tertiary (3T) Care infrastructure.

The Board is keen to ensure that maximum value is extracted from all commercial activities, while maintaining an absolute commitment to patient safety and quality. BSUH have embarked therefore on a radical transformation of their procurement department. The prime objective of this is to make the Trust more commercial in all its dealings with suppliers, providers and partners, such that there is greatly improved value for money delivered throughout the Trust’s supply chain. This will always be developed though with a clear emphasis and recognition on patient care and positive patient experience. This approach will look to merge best practice procurement and supply chain management from both inside and outside of the NHS, such that a truly ‘industry-leading’ service can be delivered.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for three experienced Senior Procurement individuals to join the team to each lead and develop in the following roles:

  • Senior Category Manager -  IT & Corporate (Band 8a £44,606 - £50,819)
  • Senior Category Manager – Facilities  (Band 8a £44,606 - £50,819)
  • Senior Category Manager – Medical & Surgical (Band 8a £44,606 - £50,819)

These roles offer the right candidates an opportunity to join a team of procurement professionals that are focused on ensuring our services support managers in delivering excellent patient outcomes, whilst meeting the challenging financial targets that the NHS are facing.

You will be responsible for leading the development and delivery of Specific Categories whilst working with the wider operational teams to create the most advantageous commercial arrangements for the Trust. You will be exposed to strategic procurement projects which will require expertise in the Category and strategic commercial acumen.

Strong stakeholder engagement and management skills are essential as is a ’can do’ attitude, with a talent for ‘making it happen’. You should be pro-active, flexible and resilient. A strong delivery focus is required, with excellent interpersonal, data-analysis, planning and organisational skills
You will be expected to work autonomously and effectively in a fast-paced environment, whilst maintaining the support of key stakeholders.
