Becoming a Graduate Operations Manager with RE:

We have created this new Operations Manager role to take on the challenge of managing our existing businesses, driving growth and, as part of the Regulatory Services management team, working across the services to improve operational excellence and lead essential transformation activity. This is an excellent opportunity to develop your full range of management skills as you will have responsibility for direct line management as well as working across the services to drive business growth.

What you will do:

  • To support the Service Director in the day-to-day running of the service and deputise as required.
  • This role is part of the Regulatory Services Management Team and will support the management of the following services alongside the Group Managers responsible for the services. A summary of the services' brief is detailed below:
    • Commercial Environmental Health, Trading Standards enforcement, Scientific Services, Residential Enforcement, Specialist Housing Programmes, Housing Grants and Assistance and Local Land Charges.
  • To be responsible for Business Growth and Development for existing and new business cases, working with Group Managers to ensure continued growth and sustainable revenues are achieved.
  • To direct, day-to-day management responsibility for discrete teams and/or business cases within the service e.g. the Pest Control service, Training Course Delivery and Business Advice services.
  • To deliver operational excellence: maintain systems for monitoring demand and productivity, implementing corrective actions and reporting.
  • To coordinate the work of the Regulatory Services Management Team including attendance at weekly management team meetings and managing the implementation of actions.
  • To deliver service transformation including to assist and where required lead on improvement and change projects to realise operational efficiencies, standardisation and innovation.

Your experience will include:

  • Degree educated - Business related would be advantageous but not essential.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, negotiation and networking skills
  • Successful track record in developing collaborative working relationships with senior managers, client organisations and other key stakeholders
  • Initiative - working within broad practice, the post holder uses their discretion to develop and determine the overall services provided to the customer, manages the work of the resource pool and creates and implements necessary policies and procedures linked to the service.
  • Mental agility - over lengthy periods on a range of different activities, in order to analyse budgetary information, determine future service provision, monitor performance indicators etc. and establish resource requirements against client need and managing staff demands.
