We have an exceptional opportunity for a Category Manager to join the group function of a prestigious multisite retailer.

Reporting into the Procurement Manager, and supported by a Procurement Assistant you will be managing the Indirect spend for 80 locations. Head office in Reading area.

Role
To manage the strategic and tactical purchasing of a group of indirect categories to ensure that the organisation is buying the right products and services from the right suppliers to fit the longer term needs of the business with a focus on best value total cost solutions whilst maintaining procedures, core values and industry best-practice.

Key sub categories to include: Property services- Facilities, Heating, Lighting, Cleaning, Security, Maintenance, Office supplies, Office equipment (Printers, telephony etc). 

Main Accountabilities
Plan and manage the purchasing activity in relation to allocated categories.
Prepare annual category spend budgets and activity plans. Monitor and report on progress. 
Working with key operational managers, establish group product / service requirements considering business needs, expectations and future business circumstances and incorporate into tender documentation.
Evaluate tender responses and supplier capability considering best overall cost, technical, quality and service requirements and make recommendations to the business.
Negotiate contract terms, prepare supply contracts and co-ordinate the implementation of new supply contracts across the business.
Manage and develop the relationships with key suppliers incorporating a partnership approach and core business values.
Review supplier performance against agreed KPIs to ensure key suppliers achieve agreed service levels and where appropriate manage supplier performance development initiatives.
Provide support to sites providing advice on supplier contracts and supporting the resolution of service issues following an escalation process. Inform and advise sites on good Purchasing practices to assist them in carrying out their local buying responsibilities.

The ideal candidate:
Able to effectively influence and manage internal and external customer relationships.
Self-motivated with drive to manage projects and resolve issues.
Able to demonstrate good all round capabilities on cost analysis, tender and contract management.
Able to use tools and techniques to profile; benchmark; research and assess the market; risks; competition; trends and new opportunities.
Have excellent IT- Excel including data analysis using formulae, pivot tables and lookup tables.
Have previous experience in a varied Purchasing environment.
Educated to degree level or equivalent, ideally in a business related discipline. 
CIPS qualifications
Understanding of contract law principles and experience in negotiating contract terms an advantage.
